SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team scored six of the first seven goals and the Engineers went on to defeat Union College, 11-5, in a Liberty League contest at Frank Bailey Field. RPI has now won seven consecutive games to improve to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the Liberty League. The Dutchmen fall to 6-5 and 1-2.

RPI scored three times in the first 6:57 to jump out front. The second goal, by senior Patrick Finn, came with the man-up. Union countered with a goal from Andrew Blau less than a minute later, but the Engineers got the next three. Jake Weidner closed out the first quarter with his ninth of the year before Blake Frasca notched his first at 11:28 of the second. Weidner scored again and Rensselaer would go on to hold a 6-3 lead at halftime.

Two man-up goals in less than a minute began the third quarter scoring and RPI built an 8-3 advantage. Matt Hall scored his 20th at 12:06 and Breanainn McNeally tallied his team-leading 34th goal of the season at 11:15. Union's Josh Freilich had a man-up goal to cut the Dutchmen's deficit to 8-3, but Engineers senior captain Pat Hogan scored just 55 seconds later.

The teams traded the final four goals of the game, giving the Engineers the 11-5 win and their fifth straight road victory. McNeally finished with two goals and an assist, Weidner and Hall each had a pair of goals and Gilman scored once with two assists. Finn finished with a goal and an assist.

David Gibbs was outstanding in goal for RPI, stopping 12 shots. He had two in the first, four in the second and third quarters and two more in the fourth. Two goalies combined for eight saves for the Dutchmen.

Rensselaer, which was 3 for 4 with the man-down, had 19 shots on goal, compared to Union's 17.

RPI is back on the road in its next game, playing league foe Skidmore College on Saturday at 1pm. Union plays at the Thoroughbreds on Wednesday at 7pm.
