SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Senior
Devon Baughen converted two penalties in the second half to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Utica College, on Saturday at College Park. With the win, the Engineers improve to 1-0-1, while the Pioneers drop to 0-2.
After a scoreless opening half in which Rensselaer held an 11-0 advantage in shots, the Engineers struck twice in a span of 1:03 to score the only two goals of the game. Baughen buried penalty kicks in the 52nd and 53rd minutes for his first and second goals of the season.
RPI was stout defensively on the day, holding the Pioneers without a shot attempt. The Engineers recorded 24 shots, including eight on goal. Baughen had eight of those tries, while junior
Steven Collins had three.
The Engineers return to action next Friday against Manhattanville (1pm).
