Engineers earn road league win, 3-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Sophomore goaltender Lovisa Selander made 32 saves to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Harvard University, on Friday night at Bright-Landry Hockey Center. With the win, the Engineers improve to 8-14-1 overall (5-6-0 ECAC Hockey), while the Crimson drop to 1-12-2 (1-7-2 ECAC Hockey).

Freshman Blake Orosz got the visitors on the board early, scoring just 44 seconds into the contest. Senior captain Laura Horwood and junior Shayna Tomlinson picked up the assists on Orosz's first collegiate tally.

RPI took a 2-0 lead at 6:10 of the second, thanks to sophomore Jaimie Grigsby's third goal in the last two games. Classmate Makenna Thomas and junior Marisa Raspa earned the helpers on Grigsby's sixth goal of the season.

The Engineers made it a 3-0 game 44 seconds later, as sophomore Taylor Schwalbe potted her third of the season, from Horwood and sophomore blueliner Josefine Hansen. The power play maker came at 6:54 of the second.

Harvard got on the board at 18:29 of the third, when Sydney Daniels netted her seventh of the season, with assists to Abigail Frazer and Natasha Rachlin.

Selander (8-12-1) made 14 saves in the second and 13 in the third to earn her third straight victory. Beth Larcom (0-1-2) had 23 stops, including 14 in the second period. RPI finished 1 for 3 on the power play, while the Crimson went 0 for 2.
