TROY, N.Y. - Vassar College outscored Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) by 10 points in the fourth quarter and the Brewers defeated the Engineers by seven, 71-64, in a Liberty League contest at East Campus Stadium. Ariella Rosenthal had 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead four Vassar (9-8; 6-2 Liberty League) student-athletes in double digits in points. The Engineers, who got a double-double from Shaina Iton, drop to 6-10 and 1-6.

Rensselaer broke out to a big lead in the first quarter, 22-10, by making 10 of 18 shots (55.6%) from the field and holding the Brewers to just 26.7% (4 of 15) shooting. Vassar started to turn things around in the second quarter, outscoring RPI 15-9 for a halftime deficit of 31-25.  Rosenthal (Mill Valley, CA / Redwood) had nine first half points, while Iton (Peekskill, NY / Peekskill) and Elizabeth Eckhardt (Albany, NY / Guilderland) both had 10 for the Engineers. Iton was 5 of 6 from the floor and Eckhardt was 4 of 8 with two three-pointers.

Vassar, which trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half, continued to chip away in the third quarter, outscoring RPI 17-14. Down by three points, 45-42, going into the fourth, freshman Isa Peczuh (Willington, CT / Edwin O. Smith) opened the frame with a shot from long range to tie the score. RPI's Lauren Young (Kirkwood, MO / St. Joseph Academy) put the Engineers back in front but a three-pointer by freshman Sophie Nick (Denver, CO / George Washington) from the top of the key gave the Brewers a 48-47 lead. A layup by Nick 4:20 later made it a seven-point lead (58-51) and the Engineers could get no closer than five points the remainder of the game.

Rosenthal, a junior, finished with game-highs in points and rebounds to go with an assist, a block and two steals in 36 minutes. Nick had 13 points and five rebounds, while Kim Romanoff (Durham, CT / Coginchaug Regional) had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Peczuh also had 11 points. The Brewers out-rebounded the Engineers by a 46-27 margin, including 33-19 on the defensive end.

Iton, the reigning Liberty League Performer of the Week, scored 17 points with 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Eckhardt had 18 points, while Sam Krumbhaar (Glen Burnie, MD / North County) and Ines Ortea (Madrid, Spain / Fillmore Central) both scored 11 points.

RPI hosts a pair of league contests this weekend as Skidmore College (6pm) and Union College (2pm) visit ECAV. Vassar is idle until January 27 when it travels to league-leading William Smith College (6pm).
