GAMEDAY (Jan. 20, 2017): The Engineers (10-6; 4-3 Liberty League) have won three straight home games and attempt to make it as many as five with two league games this weekend ... Friday is a contest against Skidmore (11-5; 6-1) and Saturday is against Union (6-7; 2-3).
TUESDAY NIGHT:
Jonathan Luster scored 23 points,
Andreas Kontopidis tallied 20 and RPI shot 53% from the floor in defeating Vassar, 69-58, in a Liberty League contest ... The Engineers made 26 of 49 shots, including 10 of 20 from three-point range, while holding the Brewers to 39% (25 of 63).
PLAYOFF POSITION: With its win on Tuesday, Rensselaer moved into sole possession of fourth place in the conference standings ... The top four teams qualify for the league's post-season tournament.Â
BOUNCE BACK: RPI's win over Vassar snapped its modest two-game losing streak.
LAST FRIDAY: Hobart used stout defense and a balanced offense to defeat RPI, 67-52 ... Colin Dougherty paced Hobart with 16 points  and classmate Jamal Lucas added 10 points and three steals ... Rensselaer got a game-high 17 points from
Tom Horvat, who was 3-of-6 from 3-point range ...

SATURDAY'S GAME: RIT needed a big second half to beat RPI, 63-61 ... The Tigers' AJ Horde scored with five seconds to play in regulation to give RIT the lead and then had a steal on RPI's next possession to preserve the victory ... Horde finished with eight points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals ...
Tom Horvat led Rensselaer with 15 points, while
Jonathan Luster added 12 points and eight rebounds.
LAST TIME VS. SKIDMORE: On January 7 in Saratoga Springs, a last second shot by Skidmore's Aldin Medunjanin fell just short and RPI handed the Thoroughbreds their first Liberty League loss, 69-66 ... With RPI holding a 67-63 advantage, Medunjanin made a three-pointer with 1:16 remaining ... After missed shots on both ends, Skidmore had a chance to win the game with 13 seconds left, but Edvinas Rupkus' shot from the top of the key missed and RPI corralled the rebound ...
Jonathan Luster hit two free throws with 2.1 seconds left ... Medunjanin's chance from about 50 feet away hit the top of the rim.
