GAMEDAY (Jan. 6, 2017): The Engineers (5-6; 0-2 Liberty League) start the 2017 portion of their schedule with a Liberty League game against Clarkson (6-4; 1-0).

HOME AGAIN: RPI is playing its third straight home game and fifth in its last six contests ... Rensselaer is 1-3 in those games, including losses in its last two contests. 

LAST FRIDAY: RIT held RPI to just over 21 percent shooting and the Tigers pulled down 59 rebounds in defeating the Engineers, 58-48 ... RIT held a six point lead, 16-10, after the first quarter, but RPI pulled to within 26-25 at halftime ... The Engineers' deficit was three points after three quarters, 39-36 ... The margin was two points in RIT's favor, 42-40, with 7:29 left in the second half before the visitors scored five straight points and eight of 10 for a 50-42 lead with 4:42 to go ... RPI battled to within four (50-46) with just under two minutes to play, but the Tigers made a jumper and five free throws ... Sam Krumbhaar scored 13 points, while classmate Elizabeth Eckhardt totaled 12 points with nine rebounds to lead RPI.

LAST SATURDAY: Sam Krumbhaar finished with a game-high 18 points, along with a rebound, three assists and a steal, but it was not enough as the Engineers lost to St. Lawrence, 69-48 ... Shaina Iton had a game-high nine rebounds with six points, an assist and two blocked shots against the Saints, who tallied 39 of the final 50 points of the first half and then controlled much of the second half ... RPI pulled to within 10 points in the third quarter behind Krumbhaar's 11 points in that period, but trailed by 13 (49-36) going into the fourth.

ALL-TIME AGAINST CLARKSON: The Engineers and Golden Knights have played 66 times with RPI holding a 48-18 advantage ... The series started in 1978 and Rensselaer won the first eight meetings before Clarkson won five straight and 12 of 14 from 1985 through 1994 ... The Engineers won 28 consecutive matchups until a win by the Golden Knights in 2012 ... Clarkson has won two of the last three meetings.

LAST SEASON: RPI and Clarkson split last season's games with the Engineers winning at home on January 3 (63-47) and the Knights winning on February 5 in Potsdam (72-54).

ALL-TIME AT HOME: In 34 contests in Troy, the Engineers are 27-7 against Clarkson.

CLARKSON TO DATE: The Golden Knights played their first game in nearly a month on Tuesday when they defeated St. Lawrence, 58-41, in Canton ... Clarkson has now won two straight games after losing three in a row in December.
