TROY, N.Y. - Sophomore goalkeeper
Matt LaBranche stopped all four shots he faced as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Vassar College, on Wednesday night at East Campus Stadium. WIth the tie, the Engineers are now 8-5-2 overall (3-3-2 Liberty League), while the Brewers move to 8-4-3 (5-1-2 Liberty League).
LaBranche (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) made one save in the first half and three in the second, while Vassar senior Matt Marcelino (Valencia, CA/Notre Dame) had five stops at the other end of the field, including three in overtime.
Neither side generated a true scoring chance in the opening 45 minutes, which saw both teams register four shot attempts.
A shot from Brewers senior Noah Snider (Laramie, WY/Laramie) was blocked out for a corner in the 70th minute, before LaBranche made a save on an attempt from sophomore Kevin Baliat (Edoret, Kenya/Sacho) five minutes later.
Snider then turned in Vassar's best chance in the 78th minute that whistled just wide of the left post. RPI freshman center back
Trevor Bisson (Baton Rouge, LA/Episcopal) got on the end of a corner kick from junior
Trevor McCaughey (Murrieta, CA/Murrieta Valley), but his head went just high.
In the first overtime, RPI went on the offensive, generating three shots on two early corners. Neither were able to find the target, however, as Bisson's try was blocked and sophomore
Brandon Pirog (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) saw his header go wide left.

Cam Law (Clarence, NY/Clarence) in the 98th minute found senior captain
Steven Collins (Flemington, NJ/Hunderdon Central Regional) at the back post, but his shot was blocked out over the crossbar.

Tarek Khartabil (East Hampstead, NH/Phillips Exeter Academy) then produced RPI's best scoring opporunity on the ensuing corner, rifling a right-footed volley just wide of the right post from outside the six.
The Engineers are back in action on Saturday, when they visit Clarkson in their regular season finale (2pm). Vassar hosts Ithaca on Saturday (2pm).
