Women's Hockey Ties UConn, 0-0

Lovisa Selander records seventh career shutout with 28 saves

STORRS, Conn. - Junior goaltender Lovisa Selander stopped all 28 shots she faced in helping the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team to a 0-0 draw at the University of Connecticut, on Saturday afternoon. With the tie, the Engineers are now 3-5-2, while the Huskies move to 4-3-2.

Selander turned away six in the first period, 14 in the second and six in the third. Rensselaer then outshot the Huskies 3-2 in the five-minute overtime session, but neither team was able to break the deadlock. Morgan Fisher finished with 30 saves at the other end of the ice, including 12 in the first period alone.

Junior Jaimie Grigsby registered a game-high seven shots for the Engineers, who went 0 for 4 on the power play. UConn was 0 for 1 on the man advantage and were paced by Natalie Snodgrass, who had five shots on goal.

After getting outshot 12-6 in the opening 20 minutes, the Huskies pushed back in the second, but Selander stood tall in goal, making a handful big saves in the frame. RPI had a strong third period and OT, turning in the majority of the opportunities, but were unable to solve Fisher.

The shutout for Selander was her first of the year and seventh of her career. Morgan's shutout was her second at UConn.

Rensselaer is back on the ice next weekend, when it returns to ECAC Hockey play at Princeton and Quinnipiac on Friday (6pm) and Saturday (3pm). The Huskies travel to Boston University (7pm) and Maine on Sunday (2pm).
