GAMEDAY (Feb. 11, 2017): The Engineers (12-10; 6-7 Liberty League) play at home for the first time in 20 days with a contest against Hobart (13-9; 8-5).
WELCOME BACK: Rensselaer men's basketball and RPI's athletics department welcomes back all those who have returned to campus for Alumni Day!
HOME AGAIN: The Engineers are playing their first home game since January 21 after concluding a four-game road stretch on Friday at Union.
FRIDAY'S ACTION: Sophomore forward
Andreas Kontopidis scored a game-high 24 points and completed a double-double with 11 rebounds to lead RPI to an 80-62 win at Union ...
Tom Horvat, also a sophomore, scored 20 points off the RPI bench, making eight of 11 shots,
Brian Hatcher tallied 13 and
Jonathan Luster scored 12 ... RPI had a slight 37-32 rebounding average and shot 54% for the game, including 56% in the first half ... RPI also made 57% of the three point attempts ... Union chipped away in the early going of the second half, but the Engineers went on a 17-10 run late, led by seven points by Luster and six from Horvat ... The lead continued to grow and got as large as 20 with 1:17 left.
PLAYOFF POSITION: Hobart, Rensselaer, Union, Clarkson and RIT are all in a battle for the third and fourth place spots in the Liberty League standings ... The top four teams qualify for the league's post-season tournament.
HOBART ON FRIDAY: Hobart sophomore Colin Dougherty erupted for a career-high 32 points, but Skidmore slipped past the Statesmen, 87-83 ... Dougherty was 10-of-15 from the field with three 3-pointers and 9-of-12 at the free throw line ... He also grabbed eight rebounds ... Tucker Lescoe added 11 points and Jamal Lucas finished with nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds ... Hobart shot 46 percent from the floor with 11 3-pointers and was 18-of-25 at the free throw line ... The difference in the game was at the line, where Skidmore went 26-of-29.
LAST MEETING: On January 13 in Geneva, Hobart used a stout defense and a balanced offense to defeat RPI, 67-52 ... Colin Dougherty paced the Statesmen with 16 points and Jamal Lucas added 10 points with three steals ... RPI got a game-high 17 points from sophomore guard
