SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Sophie Borg scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds to lead host Union College to a 70-63 Liberty League victory over local rival Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Friday night at the Viniar Athletic Center. Union improved to 12-9 for the season and 8-5 in the league while the Engineers stand 7-15 overall and 2-11 in the league.

Erin Lyons and Jenni Barra each scored 11 points and Lyons added six rebounds for the Dutchwomen. Nicole Conley scored nine off the bench and Barra added a game-high five assists. Borg posted her third double-double for Union, which shot 44% and forced 14 turnovers.

RPI was led by
Sam Krumbhaar, who tallied 16 points, and also got 12 from
LaKissa Martin and 11 from
Elizabeth Eckhardt.
Kate Goodell led the Engineers with seven rebounds and joined
Lauren Young with four assists each. RPI shot 43%, but 56% in the fourth quarter.

Union led 17-12 after the first and took a 29-28 lead into the half. The Dutchwomen were up by seven at 36-29 with 6:28 left in the third period after a layup by Lyons, and led by eight twice, 43-35 with 1:15 remaining and 45-37 after two free throws by Lyons with 38 seconds left. That was the score entering the fourth. Union outscored the guests, 16-9 in the period.

But the fourth featured 51 points, 26 by the Engineers. The Dutchwomen got up by a game-high 14 points at 54-40 with 6:29 layup after a layup by Borg. But RPI went on a 19-6 run and trailed 60-59 with 1:13 left, featuring eight points by Martin. She gave RPI a 61-60 lead with 46 seconds left but Borg scored the next four for a three point lead with 24 seconds remaining, 64-61. Union then took over at the line, making eight free throws over those final 24 seconds, for the triumph.
