Engineers close out regular season with road trip

CLOSING OUT THE REGULAR SEASON
The Engineers visit No. 9 Cornell and Colgate for their final two regular season games, this weekend ... Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm in Ithaca on Friday and 7:05pm in Hamilton on Saturday ... The regular season finale at Colgate will be RPI's first trip to the Raiders' new Class of 1965 Arena, which opened in September.

ENGINEERS FALL AT FREAKOUT!
Quinnipiac scored four first period goals en route to a 7-3 victory at the 40th Annual Big Red Freakout! last Saturday at the Houston Field House ... Freshman Will Reilly had a goal and an assist for Rensselaer, while junior Mike Prapavessis recorded two assists ... Eight Bobcats recorded multiple points, including Landon Smith, who netted a pair of goals.

RPI TOPS PRINCETON
Senior captain Riley Bourbonnais scored a pair of goals, while junior Jared Wilson netted the eventual game-winner in a 4-3 victory over Princeton ... Sophomore goaltender Chase Perry came up one save shy of his career-high, turning away 40.

RPI POINTS LEADERS
Senior captain Riley Bourbonnais enters the final weekend of the regular season with a team and career-high 27 points on 15 goals and 12 assists ... Sophomore Evan Tironese (6 goals, 20 assists) is right behind him with 26 points, while freshman Jacob Hayhurst (7 goal, 11 assists) rounds out the top three with 18 points ... Junior Jared Wilson (10 goals, 5 assists) leads all blueliners with 15.

STRATEGIC GOALIE LOCATIONS
Coming into the weekend, sophomore goaltender Chase Perry is 5-17-1 as the starter in 23 of RPI's 33 contests in 2016-17 ... He has a 3.32 goals against average and a .910 save percentage ... In 16 ECAC Hockey contests (15 starts) he is 5-10-0 with a 2.93 goals against average and a .920 save percentage.

PACING THE BIG RED
Cornell is led offensively by sophomore Mitch Vanderlaan (12 goals, 11 assists), who has 23 points ... Senior Patrick McCarron (4 goals, 17 assists) has 21 points, while junior Trevor Yates (10 goals, 10 assists) has 20 ... Sophomore Alex McRea (1 goal, 8 assists) has nine points and a team-best +15 rating.

MITCH ALL TOGETHER
Senior Mitch Gillam (17-5-4) has started 26 of Cornell's 27 games this season, posting a 2.18 goals against average and a .917 save percentage ... Junior Hayden Stewart (0-1-0) has a 1.35 goals against average and a .947 save percentage.

NO. 16 CORNELL SLIPS PAST RPI
Then 16th-ranked Cornell took its first lead of the game with 25 seconds to play in defeating Rensselaer, 4-3, on February 4 at the Houston Field House ... Freshman Yanni Kaldis, who assisted on the game-tying goal seven minute earlier, tallied the game-winner for the Big Red ... RPI sophomore goaltender Chase Perry matched his career-high with 41 saves ... Junior Viktor Liljegren scored two goals and senior captain Riley Bourbonnais had a pair of assists.

2015-16 VS. CORNELL
RPI took the season series going 1-0-1 against the Big Red last year ... Jason Kasdorf made 44 saves in a 1-0 shutout win on January 15 in Troy, before the teams skated to a 3-3 tie in Ithaca on February 27 ... Milos Bubela (1 goal, 2 assists) and Viktor Liljegren (1 goal, 1 assist) led the way for the Engineers at Lynah Rink, while Chris Bradley netted the only goal at the Houston Field House.

RICHARDSON '96 PICKED FOR HOF
Former RPI forward Bryan Richardson '96 was recently named the RPI Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2017 ... He averaged 1.37 points per game in 141 career contests, scoring 80 goals with 113 assists for 193 points ... He currently ranks fourth in school history in career assists and eighth in points ... A three-time All-ECAC honoree, he had 23 goals and 29 assists for 52 points in 36 games as a sophomore and later notched 20 goals and 36 assists in 35 games as a senior ... The team eclipsed the 20-win mark twice in his four years, including his freshman year when he was named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team.

FOR COLGATE
Freshman Bobby McMann (5 goals, 13 assists) and senior Jake Kulevich (4 goals, 14 assists) are tied for the team lead with 18 points ... Senior Brett Corkey (5 goals, 11 assists) rounds out the top three scorers with 16 points.

'GATE GOALTENDING
Senior Charlie Finn has a 6-13-4 record as the team's starter in 23 of 32 games ... He has a 3.03 goals against average and a .904 save percentage ... Freshman Colton Point (2-4-2) carries a 2-4-2 record into the weekend with a 2.29 goals against average and a .922 save percentage ... Point has started three of the last six games, going 1-1-1 with a 1.30 goals against average and a .953 save percentage ... Finn has gone 1-2-0 with a 2.68 goals against and an .897 save percentage over that same stretch.

ENGINEERS OUTLAST COLGATE
Sophomore Evan Tironese scored two goals, including the eventual game-winner late in the second period, to send RPI past Colgate, 5-2, on February 3 at the Houston Field House ... Junior Lou Nanne opened the scoring, before Tironese and Peterson traded a pair of goals each ... Junior Viktor Liljegren doubled the RPI lead in the third period, before senior captain Riley Bourbonnais added an empty-netter.

2015-16 VS. COLGATE
The Raiders took the season series 1-0-1, winning 2-0 in Hamilton after tying 2-2 at the Houston Field House ... Tylor Spink scored both goals in Colgate's 2-0 victory, while Tommy Grant and Milos Bubela tallied for the Engineers in the draw ... Zac Hamilton had 37 saves for the Raiders in Troy.

POWER PLAY IN 2017
RPI's power play is running at a 29.3% clip in the calendar year of 2017, which is good for seventh in the country.

IN ECAC HOCKEY PLAY
The Engineers boast an ECAC Hockey-best 26.1% power play in league games ... Union is second at 23.1% ... Individually, senior captain Riley Bourbonnais' six man advantage tallies are second only to Yale senior John Hayden, who has eight.
