Buckeyes sweep weekend series with 4-0 win

Columbus, Ohio — Kassidy Sauve stopped all 21 she faced, as the Ohio State University women's ice hockey team posted a 4-0 win over the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Saturday afternoon at the OSU Ice Rink.

Sauve only faced 11 shots during the first two periods, but withstood a 10 shot flurry from the Engineers in the third to earn the 13th shutout of her career.

The Buckeyes jumped out to an early lead when Emma Maltais scored her first collegiate goal off assists from Charly Dahlquist and Tatum Skaggs. It was Dahlquist's second assist of the year, and Skaggs' first.

In the second period Skaggs picked up where she left off last night by dragging the puck in front of the RPI goaltender before placing it in the back of the net, giving her a team high three goals on the year. Later on Lauren Boyle scored her first goal of the year off assists from captains Juliana Iafallo and Lauren Spring, giving Ohio State a 3-0 lead after two.

Finally, Maddy Field scored her second goal of the season when she rebounded a loose puck and dropped it in the net at the 10:30 mark of the third, giving OSU a definitive 4-0 lead.

Ohio State hits the road next weekend for a series at No. 3 Minnesota. Game one of the series is set for an 8:07 ET start on Friday night. The Engineers open up their home schedule on Friday, when they begin a two-game series with Maine at the Houston Field House (6pm).
