Liberty League Release | RPI Athletics on Instagram

TROY, N.Y. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Ed Trimpert has been selected as the Offensive Performer of the Week in football, the Liberty League has announced. The junior quarterback led the Engineers to a season-opening 45-0 victory over William Paterson University on Saturday.

Trimpert (Hillsborough, NJ / Hillsborough) completed 11 of 14 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns against the Pioneers. He threw a four-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead and then a 45-yard scoring strike in the third for a 31-0 edge. He was neither intercepted, nor sacked. Trimpert also rushed six times for 31 yards, including a long of 15 yards.

This is the first weekly award for the mechanical engineering major, who started seven games before suffering an injury last season. He completed 44 of 93 (47.3%) passes for 497 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions. He also rushed 49 times for 108 yards and two scores. He was chosen to the conference's Weekly Honor Roll once before being chosen to the Liberty League All-Academic and CoSIDA Academic All-District teams.

Two of Trimpert's teammates were tabbed for the Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll following their performances against William Paterson. Senior defensive lineman Malik Joseph (Bronx, NY / Iona Prep.) led the Engineers to hold the Pioneers to only 44 yards rushing and seven passing with zero points. He had six total tackles with three unassisted and 2.0 for lost yards (5).

Classmate Christian Kapp (Amawalk, NY / Iona Prep.) was recognized after connecting on his only field goal attempt, a 23-yard attempt to end the first half (24-0 lead), and each of his six extra point attempts. He also had seven kickoffs for 445 yards, an average of 63.6 yards. One kickoff went for a touchback.

RPI is back on the field on Saturday when it travels to WPI for the Transit Trophy Game (1pm).
