TROY, N.Y. - Freshman Lance Tebay made a three-point basket with just under two seconds remaining to lift the Vassar College men's basketball team to a 69-66 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a Liberty League game at East Campus Arena on Friday night. The Brewers, who closed the game by scoring 21 of the final 24 points, improve to 4-9 overall and 3-3 in the league. RPI falls to 7-6 and 3-3.

Vassar gained possession on a turnover with the score tied and 24 seconds remaining. Following a timeout, the Brewers ran down the clock and eventually set up Tebay just beyond the arc to the left of the top of the key. His shot went through with under two seconds remaining to give Vassar its fourth win in the last five games. Tebay finished with 21 points, sharing team-high honors with Jesse Browne. They both made five three-pointers.

The Brewers trailed 63-48 with just under seven minutes remaining, but nearly erased the entire deficit with a 14-point run. Browne highlighted the stretch with back-to-back three-pointers, while contributing on the other end with his team switching from man-to-man to a zone defense. An Asa Barnhill layup broke the string and gave RPI a 65-62 lead with 2:31 to play, but B.J. White made a pair of free throws and a layup after an Engineers' free throw to tie the score and set up Tebay's last second shot.

Tebay made 6 of 9 shots from the field, including 5 of 6 from three-point range, for his 21 points, along with nine rebounds in 30 minutes. Browne was 8 of 18 (5 of 10 from three) with two boards and a pair of assists in 38 minutes. White finished with nine points and three assists.

For Rensselaer, junior Andreas Kontopidis had a game-high 22 points with nine rebounds, an assist, two blocks and two steals. Barnhill and Tom Horvat both finished with 11 points, while Marcus Giese had 10 rebounds.

The Engineers are right back in action on Saturday when they host Bard College (4pm). Vassar travels to the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), also at 4pm.
