MAYOR'S CUP VI
The Engineers take on area-rival Union College in the sixth annual Mayor's Cup at the Times Union Center on Saturday ... Puck drop is scheduled for 6pm.

BEARS EDGE RPI LATE
Tim Lappin scored with three seconds left in regulation to top the Engineers, 2-1, on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium ... RPI senior captain Jared Wilson opened the scoring at 19:25 of the second period, netting his sixth goal of the year on the power play, from classmate Mike Prapavessis and junior Brady Wiffen ... Brown tied it up at 8:05 of the third, before Lappin tipped home the late winner ... Linden Marshall posted 41 saves, including all 14 shots he saw in the first period ... Brown freshman Luke Kania had 27 stops at the other end of the ice.

BIG SECOND PACES YALE
A four-goal second stanza helped the Bulldogs to a 5-1 victory over Rensselaer on Saturday night in New Haven, Conn. ... Charlie Curti fired the opening salvo at 5:05 of the second, before RPI quickly tied it 26 seconds later on Meirs Moore's first tally of the year ... Yale came back with a pair of power play goals at 6:55 and 11:49, before junior Joe Snively potted a shorthanded marker for a 4-1 lead ... The Bulldogs added an insurance marker at 1:51 of the third ... Linden Marshall turned away 32 in the loss, while Kaczperski had 24 saves.

RPI LEADERS
Sophomore Jacob Hayhurst leads the Engineers with 16 points on seven goals and nine assists through 26 games ... Junior Evan Tironese (6 goals, 8 assists) has 14 points, while sophomore Will Reilly (7 goals, 5 assists) has 12.

ENGINEERS GOALTENDING
Freshman netminder Linden Marshall is 3-11-2 with a 3.04 goals against average and a .911 save percentage in 18 games (17 starts) ... Junior Chase Perry has started nine games for the Engineers this season, going 1-7-2 with a 3.55 goals against average and a .897 save percentage.

BUBELA '16 AN OLYMPIAN
Rensselaer graduate Milos Bubela '16 has been named to the Slovakian national team for the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea ... He is the fifth former Engineers player to compete in the Olympics, joining Joe Juneau (Canada), Marty Dallman (Austria), Mo Mansi (Italy) and Mathias Lange (Austria) ... A forward from Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, Bubela played in 139 career games for the Engineers, scoring 33 goals and adding 30 assists for 63 points.

MAYOR'S CUP HISTORY
Union took the inaugural playing of the trophy game, 3-2, on January 26, 2013 ... The teams have since traded off winning the event, including last year's 3-2 overtime victory for the Dutchmen ... RPI's wins came in 2013-14 (2-1) and 2015-16 (5-2).

ALL-TIME VS. UNION
RPI owns a 51-39-10 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to February 26, 1904 – a 6-2 victory for the Engineers in Albany ... The 113-year history has been highlighted by a number of streaks, including early RPI winning runs of nine and eight games ... The Dutchmen put together a seven-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2) from 2004 to 2007, before beating the Engineers in 10 straight – the long unbeaten in series history – from 2011 to 2013 ... After ending the dry spell, RPI quickly ran off wins in 6 of 7, before Union swept the three-game season series last year and took both of this season's conference games.

ENGINEERS SWEPT BY UNION
The Engineers dropped both games of their ECAC Hockey-opening series to Union College, by scores of 4-3 and 4-2 on October 27 and 28 ... Chase Perry had 25 saves in each game, while Todd Burgess (1 goal, 1 assist) and Brady Wiffen (1 goal, 1 assist) paced the team offensively ... Freshman Jon Richards chipped in with two assists on Saturday, helping RPI to a 2-1 lead after two periods, but the Dutchmen scored three in the third, including an empty-netter for the comeback win.

SCOUTING THE DUTCHMEN
Union has won four of their last six games, including the last three in the row ... Senior Ryan Scarfo paces the Dutchmen offensively with 15 goals and 12 assists for 27 points ... A trio of juniors follow, including captain Cole Maier (8 goals, 16 assists) with 24 points, Brett Supinski (6 goals, 16 assists) with 22 and Sebastian Vidmar (7 goals, 14 assists). 

UNION IN NET
Junior Jake Kupsky has a 5-9-1 record in 16 games (15 starts) ... He has a 2.75 goals against average and a .909 save percentage ... Freshman Darion Hanson (9-3-0) has a 2.11 goals against average and a .915 save percentage in 12 starts ... He has the team's lone shutout.

2016-17 VS. UNION
The Dutchmen took all three meetings last year, sweeping the ECAC Hockey weekend series, 4-1 and 3-2 in overtime ... Union then won the Mayor's Cup game at the Times Union Center, 3-2 in overtime ... Mike Vecchione was the hero in Schenectady, scoring the OT-winner, while Cole Maier potted the game-ender in Albany.

GOALS? YOU BET!
Both teams have a scored at least one goal in the last 30 meetings between RPI and Union and 25 of those games have seen at least five total tallies ... Union's Corey Milan was the last goaltender to register a shutout in the series, stopping all 31 shots he faced in a 3-0 victory on February 6, 2009 ... RPI's last shutout in the series belongs to RPI Athletics Hall of Famer Joel Laing, who made 31 saves in a 5-0 win at the Houston Field House on January 15, 2000.

CAPITAL SKATES
Since moving to a series format in 2007-08, the Dutchmen have taken home the Capital Skates - the winners of the regular season ECAC Hockey series - nine times, including a tie in 2010-11, in which they retained the trophy for the season before ... RPI held the skate in 2014-15 and 2015-16.

MARSHALL HONORED
ECAC Hockey has announced its weekly awards and Linden Marshall has been named Goaltender of the Week ... A freshman from Victoria, B.C., Marshall posted a 1.61 goals against average and a .950 save percentage in the three contests ... He led the nation in total saves, turning away 95 of the 100 shots he faced, including a career-high 45 against Harvard.

CLARKSON BLANKS ENGINEERS
Sophomore Nico Sturm scored a pair of goals, including an empty-netter to lead then-No. 3 Clarkson to a 3-0 victory over RPI on Saturday night at the Houston Field House ... Rensselaer freshman goalie Linden Marshall made 31 stops on 33 shots, including all 12 shots that he faced in the second period.

LILJEGREN NETS OT WINNER
Senior Viktor Liljegren scored 1:39 into overtime to lift the Engineers to a 2-1 victory over St. Lawrence on Friday night at the Houston Field House ... RPI received 19 saves from freshman netminder Linden Marshall ... Classmate Billy Jerry netted the opening goal for the Engineers, while sophomore Will Reilly assisted on both Rensselaer tallies on the night.

RPI AND HARVARD TIE
Freshman goaltender Linden Marshall made a career-high 45 saves to lead the Engineers to a 2-2 tie with Harvard on Tuesday night at the Houston Field House ... Senior Viktor Liljegren netted the game's opening goal, before the Crimson fought back to take a 2-1 lead ... RPI senior captain Jared Wilson netted the equalizing goal at 10:07 of the third period on a 5-on-3 power play.

DONATO DENIERS
The Engineers are still the only team hold Harvard junior forward Ryan Donato without a point this season ... Recently named to the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team, he has 20 goals and nine assists in 19 contests.

OTT ADDED
Rensselaer added forward Donovan Ott to the roster last week ... The former Johnstown Tomahawks standout is eligible to play immediately ... He had seven goals and eight assists for 15 points in 17 North American Hockey League (NAHL) games this season ... The 6-1, 200 pound freshman will wear number 22 for the Engineers.

GORNALL JOINS ENGINEERS
Sophomore Mike Gornall will be added to the roster as a transfer from the University of North Dakota ... While ineligible to play this season under NCAA guidelines, he can practice with the Engineers after enrolling at the institute this January.

BLOCKING SHOTS
RPI has blocked 326 shots through 26 games this season, which ranks fifth in ECAC Hockey ... Senior Mike Prapavessis has a team-high 40, while junior Tommy Grant is right behind him with 37 ... Junior center Brady Wiffen leads all Rensselaer forwards with 21.

ON THE DRAW
Rensselaer has won 47.0% of its faceoffs so far this year ... Sophomore Jacob Hayhurst is a team-best 53.6%, while sophomore Jake Marrello is secound at 50.0% ... Junior Brady Wiffen rounds out the top three at 47.1%.

IN JANUARY
The Engineers have 53.9% of their faceoffs in five January contests, with sophomore Jacob Hayhurst leading the way at 59.2% ... Junior Brady Wiffen is second at 57.8% this month, while sophomore Jake Marrello rounds out the top three at 54.0%.
