GENEVA, N.Y. - Andreas Kontopidis scored 27 points and Tom Horvat had 22, but it was not enough as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team suffered a 77-69 loss at Hobart College on Tuesday night. The first-place Statesmen won its 10th straight game to improve to 16-3 overall and 11-1 in the Liberty League. The Engineers saw their winning streak stopped at two games and they are now 10-9 and 5-7.

Hobart led by six points, 34-28, at halftime behind 10 points from Jamal Lucas, but the Engineers cut it to one points, 66-65, on a Horvat three-pointer with just over two minutes left. The Statesmen answered with a pair of free throws before Kontopidis made it 68-67 with 1:35 to play. Hobart scored the next five points (73-67) and then countered two more Horvat free throws with four of its own for the final margin.

Kontopidis was RPI's first half catalyst with 17 points on 7 of 11 shooting in the first 30 minutes. Horvat connected for 16 second half points, including 4 of 6 from three-point range. He added two rebounds, a block, an assist and a steal in 35 minutes. Kontopidis had nine rebounds, two assists and a steal. Marcus Giese scored four points with nine boards.
