ENGINEERS DROP A PAIR
UMass swept RPI in a two-game series last weekend, winning 6-1 in Amherst on Friday, before taking home a 3-1 victory from the Houston Field House on Saturday night ... Freshman Jakub Lacka scored both of Rensselaer's goals, while Jacob Hayhurst had a pair of assists ... Linden Marshall made 23 saves, before being relieved by Owen Savory (8 saves) in the third period of the opener ... Marshall then turned away 29 on Saturday.

RPI LEADERS
Freshman Jakub Lacka (2 goals) and junior Jacob Hayhurst (2 assists) are tied for the team lead with two points apiece ... Junior Will Reilly (assist) and freshman Kyle Hallbauer (assist) each have a point from the blueline.

BETWEEN THE PIPES
Sophomore Linden Marshall (0-2-0) has a 4.84 goals against average and an .867 save percentage as the starter in each of RPI's first two games ... Freshman Owen Savory made his collegiate debut in the season opener at UMass, stopping 8 of 9 shots in the third period ... He has a 3.03 goals against average and an .889 save percentage.

ALL-TIME VS. UCONN
RPI leads the all-time series with the Huskies, 3-0-3, dating back the first ever meeting on January 18, 1930 – a 6-5 overtime win for the Engineers in Troy over then Connecticut Agricultural College ... Rensselaer is 3-0-1 at home in the series, 0-0-1 on the road and 0-0-1 in neutral site games ... The two teams tied, 3-3, in Omaha on October 16, 2004.

RECENTLY
The Engineers 1-0-1 in the series over the last 10 years, with their most recent victory coming on November 26, 2010 – 6-5 at the Houston Field House ... RPI and UConn battled to a 1-1 tie in latest bout, which took place in Hartford.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
UConn (1-1-0) opened the season by defeating Army West Point, 5-2, before falling at Quinnipiac, 4-2 ... The Huskies are led offensively freshman Jonny Evans (1 goal, 2 assists) ... Four others have two points, including juniors Alexander Payusov (1 goal, 1 assist) and Benjamin Freeman (1 goal, 1 assist) ... Freshman Ruslan Ishkakov (1 goal, 1 assist) also has a pair of points through two collegiate games.

CONNECTICUT IN NET
Adam Huska (1-1-0) has a 2.51 goals against average and a .918 save percentage through two games this season ... He went 8-16-2 with a 2.59 goals against average and a .912 save percentage in 27 games last year ... The roster also includes sophomore Bradley Stone and freshman Tomas Vomacka.

UCONN UPENDS ARMY
After Army's Alex Wilkinson opened the scoring 8:13 into the first period, the Huskies netted the next four goals, including the eventual game-winner from Brian Rigali at 8:41 of the second period ... Wilkinson pulled the hosts within 4-2 on the power play early in the third, before Alexander Payusov potted an insurance marker before the midway point of the frame ... Adam Huska made 32 saves for the Huskies, while Jared Dempsey (16 saves) and Trevin Kozlowski (10 saves) saw time in goal for Army.

LAST TIME OUT VS. HUSKIES
Drew Melanson scored the game-tying goal with two seconds left in the second period to help the Engineers stay unbeaten all-time against UConn with a 1-1 tie ... Scott Diebold made 33 saves for the Engineers, including 13 in the second period along ... The Huskies received a second period tally from Joey Ferriss, while Rob Nichols had 24 saves between the pipes.

FIRST GOAL
Freshman Jakub Lacka netted his first collegiate goal just 15 minutes into his first game, scoring on the power play in the first period at UMass on Friday night ... He added his second goal the following evening at the Houston Field House.

FIRST POINT
Rookie defenseman Kyle Hallbauer earned his first collegiate point – an assist – against the Minutemen on Friday night in Amherst.

UNBEATEN MARK
The Engineers are unbeaten against six current Division I NCAA teams, including two they have ye to play (Canisius & Omaha) ... Of the teams it has played RPI is 5-0-1 against the University of Alabama-Huntsville, 3-0-3 against the University of Connecticut, 2-0 against Robert Morris University and 1-0 against Bemidji State University.

RECENTLY VS. HOCKEY EAST
RPI has lost its last 10 games against Hockey East competition ... The Engineers defeated New Hampshire, 4-3, on November 24, 2015 at the Houston Field House for their most recent victory against a team from the conference.

THREE GOALIES SEE ACTION
Each of RPI's three netminders saw 20 minutes of ice time in the team's exhibition win over UPEI, beginning with sophomore Linden Marshall, who stopped all six shots he faced in the first period ... Freshman Owen Savory, who donned the Cherry & White for the first time in his career was 12 for 12 stopping shots in the second, while senior Chase Perry made 10 saves on 12 shots in the third.

TOP RETURNERS
RPI welcomes back its top scorer from a season ago in junior Jacob Hayhurst, who collected 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points ... Classmate Will Reilly is top returning point-getter from the blue line with seven goals and six assists for 13 points ... All 37 goaltending starts are back this season as well, including freshman Linden Marshall, who went 5-20-2 with a 3.17 goals against average and a .904 save percentage in 29 games.

YEAR TWO FOR SMITH
Head coach Dave Smith is starting his second season leading the Engineers ... He is the 13th head coach in school history.

ROSTER MAKEUP
Of the 28 players on the 2018-19 roster, there are four seniors, nine juniors, five sophomore and 10 freshmen ... Of the 25 skaters, 16 are forwards and nine are defensemen, with three goaltenders.

THIRD SLOVAKIAN
Freshman Jakub Lacka will be the third player to suit up for the Engineers from the nation of Slovakia, joining Alexander Valentin '06 and Milos Bubela '16.

CAPTAINS ANNOUNCED
The Rensselaer men's hockey captains have been announced and senior Tommy Grant will be joined by classmate Brady Wiffen and junior Willy Reilly in leading the Engineers throughtout the 2018-19 season ... A defenseman from Sparta, N.J., Grant played in 30 games last season, registering one assist and 10 penalties for 20 minutes. He appeared in 21 of 22 ECAC Hockey contests, collecting an assist and seven penalties for 14 minutes ... A forward out of St. Mary's, Ont., Wiffen played in 34 games last season, registering five goals and six assists for 11 points. He led the team in shorthanded goals (1), while also scoring one game-winner ... A defenseman from Toronto, Ont., Reilly is the top returning point-getter from the blue line for the Engineers, having recorded seven goals and six assists for 13 points a season ago.

DRAFTED
Rensselaer has three student-athletes on the roster who have been selected in the NHL Entry Draft ... Senior goaltender Chase Perry was chosen in the fifth round (136th overall) of the 2014 draft by the Detroit Red Wings ... Junior Todd Burgess was selected in 2016 draft in the fourth round (103rd overall) by the Ottawa Senators, while classmate Will Reilly was a seventh round selection (217 overall) in the 2017 draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

ECAC HOCKEY ON ESPN+
ECAC Hockey today announced a multi-year deal with ESPN to showcase nearly 180 additional men's and women's games on ESPN+, beginning in the 2018-19 season. The agreement features all regular and post-season home games for ECAC Hockey members Clarkson, Colgate, Quinnipiac, St. Lawrence, and Union. Fans who subscribe to ESPN+ will also have the opportunity to watch home games of six other ECAC Hockey members.
