Grigsby Beats RIT With Late Goal

Senior Jaimie Grigsby scored with 1.2 seconds left in regulation for 3-2 victory

TROY, N.Y. - Senior Jaimie Grigbsy scored two goals, including one with 1.2 seconds left in regulation to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), on Saturday afternoon at the Houston Field House. With the win, the Engineers improve to 2-3-2 overall, while the Tigers drop to 1-4-3.

Grigsby steered home a point shot by junior Sabrina Repaci moments before the horn sounded to give the Engineers a 3-2 lead. Freshman Aliyah Lance drew a penalty with just over a minute left in regulation, giving the hosts their third power play of the night. RPI capitalized as Repaci fired a shot along the ice that caromed in off of Grigsby for her second goal of the night.

Rensselaer opened the scoring at 6:57 of the opening frame, when Grigsby buried a feed from junior Blake Orosz on a 2-on-1 break. Classmate Kirsten Iwanski started the play form below her own goal line, rifling a pass up the right wing boards.

The Tigers drew even (1-1) at 8:27 of the first on Claudia Black's first goal of the season. Helpers went to Brittney Gout and Madison Farrand.

Senior Josefine Hansen gave the Engineers a 2-1 lead at 18:06 of the opening stanza, when she fired home a lot shot through traffic. The man advantage tally drew assists from Orosz and Repaci.

RIT tied things up again - at 19:00 of the second - on Kendall Cornine's team-leading sixth goal of the season. Hunter Barnett and Logan Land had the helpers on the even strength tally.

Senior captain Lovisa Selander (2-3-2) finished with 24 saves, while Terra Lanteigne (1-3-3) had 18 at the other end of the ice.

RPI is back action next weekend, when it heads to St. Lawrence and Clarkson to begin ECAC Hockey play.
