POTSDAM, N.Y. - Freshman
Whitney Wisnom set up both goals, including
Emily Kaplan's game-winner in the 84th minute, to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Clarkson University in the season finale for both teams. RPI finishes 5-9-3 overall and 2-5-2 in the Liberty League, while the Golden Knights drop to 5-9-3 and 1-6-2.
RPI jumped out to a 1-0 lead when senior
Emily Dunn collected a Wisnom cross six yards from goal and put the ball along the ground and over the goal line. Wisnom had drawn the goalie out of the net, leaving the middle of the cage open for Dunn, who scored her second of the season.
Clarkson evened the score with only 12 seconds remaining in the first half when Ashley Abel's header went over goalkeeper
Joey Lyons and into the goal. Mia Fiacchi had the assist on the goal.
The game remained deadlocked until the 84th minute when Wisnom carried the ball to the end line and crossed it to the front, where Kaplan finished for her team-leading third goal of the season. It was also her first game-winning marker.
Lyons made it stand up with three saves, while Elyse Green made five saves on the other end.
