SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College men's soccer team took an early lead and then quickly answered a Dillon Ashong tying goal and the Dutchmen defeated the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team, 2-1, in a Liberty League game at College Park Field. The Dutchmen improve to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference, while RPI is now 4-7-1 and 2-2.

Ashong, a junior, pulled the Engineers even in the contest in the 68th minute when he scored on a penalty kick, driving the ball to the lower left corner of the goal, just out of the reach of goalkeeper Trevor Krupp. Rensselaer earned the kick after Dan Graybill was blatantly shoved to the ground from behind while in the box and the ball in the air headed his way. The goal was the second of the season for Ashong.

Union got the goal and the lead back four minutes later when Harrison Wenzel registered his second of the season. Jason Miller sent the ball into the box from the corner left and Wenzel headed it over the reach of goalkeeper Matt LaBranche and into the net.

The Dutchmen's first tally, which came in the ninth minute, was scored by Yasin Dombayci on a header off a free kick from Salvador Lopez.

LaBranche finished with three saves in 90 minutes, while Krupp stopped three shots as well.

Union held the edge in shots (10-6), but RPI had a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Dutchmen committed 25 fouls to Rensselaer's 14.

Rensselaer is back in action on Friday at RIT (4pm), while Union travels to Hobart College for a match on Friday (4pm).
