GAMEDAY (Nov. 20, 2018): The Engineers (1-1; 0-0 Liberty League) make their first appearance at home as they welcome The Sage Colleges (1-2; 0-0 Empire 8) for a non-league contest (8pm) ... The women's programs from both schools play at 6pm.

LAST SEASON: RPI played at Sage a season ago and came away with a 75-53 victory ... Tom Horvat scored 20 points, Andreas Kontopidis tallied 16 and Mitchel Wayand had 10 for Rensselaer, which led by seven points, 39-32, at the half ... For the Gators, Chris Kidd had 14 points and Anthony Mitchell collected 11 points with six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

LAST TIME IN TROY: Jonathan Luster scored a career-high 26 points on 9 of 14 shooting (6 of 9 from 3-point range), and the Engineers defeated the Gators, 72-59 ... Luster added four rebounds, two assists and a steal ... Brian Hatcher had 13 points with six boards, three assists and three blocked shots ... Tom Horvat notched 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal for the Engineers, who had 18 assists on 26 baskets ... Marcus Patterson led Sage with 19 points, a game-high nine rebounds, three assists and three steals.

LAST YEAR IN TROY: Rensselaer had an 8-2 record at East Campus Arena a season ago ... The Engineers had a non-league win against MCLA before going 7-2 in Liberty League competition.

HOME STREAK: RPI won each of its last five home games in 2017-18.

RPI LAST WEEKEND: Marcus Giese averaged a team-best 14.0 points with 6.0 rebounds in 29.0 minutes to be named to the All-Tournament Team in the 9th Annual Hawks Against Hunger Tip Off Tournament hosted by Hilbert College ... He also had six assists and four blocked shots as the Engineers went 1-1 ... RPI lost to Utica, 72-63, but bounced back for a 75-52 win over Waynesburg in the consolation contest.

CLIMBING THE LADDER: With 27 points in the first two games, including 21 on Saturday afternoon, RPI senior guard Tom Horvat surpassed 1,200 career points and moved into seventh place in school history (1,201) ... He is 26 points from Rob Helmer '89, who sits in sixth ... Tom Ronan '92 is the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,724 points.

RPI CAPTAINS: Rensselaer is being led by seniors Marcus Giese, Tom Horvat, Andreas Kontopidis and Ryan Kriftcher, all of whom have been named captains by head coach Mark Gilbride ... Each are in their first years in that role for the Engineers.

SAGE TO DATE: The Gators are off to a 1-2 start with losses to SUNY Cobleskill (94-83) and Oglethorpe (81-70) and a win against St. Joseph's of Brooklyn (99-71) ... The two most recent contests were part of a tournament at Manhattanville.

RPI EXPERIENCE: The coaches in this game have in excess of 40 years experience on RPI's bench ... Current head coach Mark Gilbride is in his fifth season ... Sage head coach Brian Barnes was an assistant at Rensselaer for three seasons under Mike Griffin, who spent 36 years coaching the Engineers, including 30 as the head coach ... Griffin, who retired and was replaced by Gilbride, is the school record holder for career wins.
