TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) scored three goals in the third period to lift them over Princeton, 4-2 Saturday night. Captain Shayna Tomlinson scored one goal and added two assists, leading the way for the Engineers. With the win, RPI improves to 9-16-5 (6-10-2 ECAC), while Princeton stumbles to 10-11-4 (8-9-1 ECAC).

The Engineers got the early lead, just 5:17 into the game, as Madeleine Burnett took a wrist shot from the point, which bounced off goaltender Stephanie Neatby's chest, up and over into the net. The goal was the fourth on the season for the freshman, with Morgan Ondrick and Marisa Raspa getting the assists.

The rest of the first period was very even, with both teams getting some scoring chances. After one period, RPI held a 1-0 lead, and the shot totals were tied at 11 apiece.

The script was flipped in the second period, however, as Princeton put in their first goal with 3:41 left in the period, courtesy of Sharon Frankel. Frankel let go of a shot in between the circles, and Lovisa Selander made the save. The puck kicked out to the junior goaltender's right, where it bounced off the leg of a Rensselaer defender and into the net.

Princeton would strike again later less than two minutes later when Carly Bullock gave the Tigers their first lead of the night. Bullock scored her 18th of the season after teammate Kiersten Falck carried the puck to the net who then took it behind the net and whipped the puck out in front to Bullock. The forward then knocked it underneath Selander and Amanda Kimmerle, making the score 2-1.

Princeton outshot Rensselaer 20-6 in the second period, putting the shots on goal at 31-17 Princeton, but the Engineers trialed by just one, thanks in large part to Selander's performance in net.

After an excellent second period, the ice seemed to be tilting in favor of the Tigers. However, with 9:51 remaining in the third, Jaimie Grigsby skated behind the net and threw one towards Neatby and snuck it in at the far-post, tying the game at two. Tomlinson and Sabrina Repaci were the two helpers on the goal.

With 2:20 remaining, it was Tomlinson who took on the heroics. The senior came into the zone and ripped a shot into Neatby. The goaltender appeared to gobble up the shot, but the puck trickled through her legs and into the net, giving RPI the 3-2 lead. Adding assists on the Engineers' third goal were Makenna Thomas and Amanda Kimmerle.

With 1:05 remaining, Morgan Ondrick took a tripping penalty, putting Princeton on the power play and the faceoff in RPI's zone. Tomlinson came up big again and won the draw straight back to defenseman Whitney Renn, who launched it from her own blue line into the Princeton net, sealing the game at 4-2.

Thanks to their second period, Princeton won the shot battle, 39-28. Bullock led the way for the Tigers with a goal, an assist, and seven shots on goal. Grigsby also had seven shots and one goal to pace the Engineers.

Rensselaer will be in action next weekend as they travel to Dartmouth on Friday (6 pm), and Harvard on Saturday (3 pm). Princeton will look to bounce back as they host Clarkson on Friday (6 pm) and St. Lawrence on Saturday (3 pm).
