Women's Lax Outlasts Union, 12-9

Aslasan scores a game-high six goals as Engineers improve to 4-2 in league play

TROY, N.Y. – Junior Maddy Aslansan scored a game-high six goals to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team to a 12-9 victory over Union College, in a Liberty League contest at Renwyck Field on Wednesday night. With the win, the Engineers improve to 6-3-1 overall (4-2 Liberty League), while the Dutchwomen drop to 0-9 (0-5 Liberty League).

Aslansan (Philadelphia, PA/Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) answered a pair of early Union goals with her first two on the night, to knot the score at 2-2, eight minutes in. Senior Allie Claroni (Reading, MA/Reading Memorial) and junior Michelle Bolger (Williston, VT/Rice Memorial) then made it four straight for the hosts.

Dutchwomen sophomore Corey Golden (Cohasset, MA/Cohasset) ended the run with her seventh goal of the season, taking a feed from senior captain Cailin Pandolfi (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) to draw within 4-3 at 17:01 of the half.

A man-up tally from junior Erin Goodwin (Kensington, CT/Berlin) was followed up by Aslansan's third to push the RPI advantage back to three (6-3). Union junior Ramsey Walsh (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) netted her seventh goal of the year with 5:46 to play before halftime.

Rensselaer came out firing to start the second half, scoring the first four goals, including two more from Aslansan. Bolger also chipped in with a man-up tally during the run, which pushed the Engineers' lead to 10-4 with 17:45 to play.

Consecutive goals from juniors Hannah Rosenberger (North Andover, MA/Brooks School) and Kellie Cronin (Westwood, MA/Westwood) pulled Union back to within 10-6.

Aslansan then found classmate Abbey Salvon (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) for a one-time tally, before answering Union's seventh goal with her sixth of the game and 27th of the year for a 12-7 lead with 7:25 to go.

The Dutchwomen managed a pair of late goals, including Rosenberger's 13th of the season, but did not get any closer.

Junior goaltender Aleena Milinski (Beaver Falls, PA/Blachawk) finished with 11 saves for Rensselaer, while Union sophomore Ellen Taney (Darien, CT/Darien) had nine at the other end of the field.

Union totaled 29 shots to RPI's 27 and scooped up 23 ground balls to the Engineers' 17.

RPI is back in action on Saturday, when it visits No. 14 Ithaca College (12pm). Union hosts Rochester on Saturday (3pm).
