ITHACA, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team dropped each of the three doubles matches and could not make up the difference in singles as the Engineers lost to St. Lawrence University, 5-0, in a Liberty League Tournament Quarterfinals match at the Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University. The Engineers, the sixth seed, conclude their season with a 10-6 record. The Saints, the third seed, improve to 10-10 and advance to face second-seeded Vassar College on Saturday at 2pm at Ithaca College.
Rensselaer's number one doubles team of
Andrea Valencia and
Mailani Neal played the closest tandem match, losing 8-6. Valencia then dropped her No. 3 singles match, 6-2, 6-2, and
Nisha Rajamohan fell at No. 4, 6-0, 6-3.
RPI, which is coached by
Justin Roe, was playing in the league tournament for the first time 2015. The Engineers lose only
Makenzi Herbst, a junior who is graduating in three years and beginning law school at the University of Chicago upon commencement.
