Engineers open Alumni Weekend with Bears on Friday, before 42nd BRF! on Saturday

ALUMNI WEEKEND
RPI opens a stretch of five straight games in the Capital District this weekend, with home games against Brown and Yale ... The Engineers will be celebrating Alumni Weekend with the 42nd Big Red Freakout! taking place on Saturday against the Bulldogs ... Puck drop on both nights is scheduled for 7pm.

ENGINEERS DROP UCONN
Junior Chase Zieky registered his first career multi-point game to lead RPI to a 5-2 victory at UConn on January 16 night at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. ... Scoring a pair of goals, Zieky also set up the Engineers' fourth goal, earning the primary assist on a tally by Will Reilly ... Freshman netminder Owen Savory made 31 saves to pick up his second win.

RPI LEADERS
Junior Jacob Hayhurst (3 goal, 20 assists) has a team-best 23 points through 22 games this season ... Junior Will Reilly (4 goals, 9 assists) is second with 13 points, while classmate Todd Burgess (5 goals, 7 assists) is right behind him with 12 ... Fellow junior Patrick Polino (7 goals, 4 assists) and freshman Ottoville Leppanen (2 goals, 9 assists) have 11 points apiece.

BETWEEN THE PIPES
Sophomore Linden Marshall (5-8-0) has a 3.70 goals against average and an .890 save percentage as the starter 13 games this season ... Freshman Owen Savory made his collegiate debut in the season opener at UMass, stopping 8 of 9 shots in the third period ... He then earned the win in his first collegiate start on November 23 at UMass Lowell, saving 26 ... For the season, Savory is 2-7-0, with a 2.73 goals against average and a .926 save percentage in 11 appearances (9 starts) ... Senior Chase Perry made his season debut against Notre Dame on December 1 and has a 1.58 goals against average and a .944 save percentage in 37:59 of ice time.

ALL-TIME VS. BROWN
RPI's 63-30-8 record against the Bears including the program's most wins against any opponent ... Brown, however, did win the inaugural meeting, 5-0, on December 28, 1951 in Troy ... The Engineers did win six of the next seven in the series and had a 19-game winning streak from 1982 to 1991, eventually falling to Brown, 5-3, on December 3, 1993.

RECENTLY
Brown is currently riding a four-game winning streak against the Engineers, which is the longest string in series history ... The Bears won three straight on two previous occasions (1975-76) and 1980-81) ... RPI won the four contests prior, and were unbeaten in the last five (4-0-1) ... Seven of the last nine meetings have been decided by one goal or fewer.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
Senior Tommy Marchin leads the way for Brown with five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 18 games ... Junior Zach Guittari (4 goals, 6 assists) has 10 points, while sophomore Jochim Weberg (5 goals, 4 assists), freshman Tristan Crozier (4 goals, 5 assists) and senior Max Gottlieb (2 goals, 7 assist) have nine points apiece.

BROWN IN NET
Junior Gavin Neito is 5-5-1 with a 2.70 goals against average and a .906 save percentage in 12 games (11 starts) ... Sophomore Luke Kania (1-4-2) has a 3.06 goals against average and an .893 save percentage in seven starts.

ENGINEERS FALL AT BROWN
The Bears built a 2-0 lead though the first 25 minutes of the contest, before holding off a late push from RPI to win 2-1 ... Senior Brady Wiffen netted the lone Engineers tally on the day, while Owen Savory turned away 36 of 38 shots ... Rensselaer had a number of chances to pull even in the third period, outshooting the Bears, 11-8, in the frame.

ALL-TIME VS. YALE
Rensselaer owns a 57-49-6 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to January 22, 1909 – a 3-0 Bulldogs victory in Albany ... Yale won the first four meetings, before the Engineers were able to come away victorious on December 10, 1953 – 4-2 in New Haven ... RPI is 34-21-3 all-time at home against the Bulldogs.

RECENTLY
The Bulldogs are 4-2-0 in the last six meetings, including split of the season series in 2017-18 ... The two teams have split the last six meetings in Troy (3-3-0) with the Engineers taking 2 of 3, including a 3-2 overtime victory on November 13, 2015 and a 2-1 win on December 1, 2017.

YALE TOPS RENSSELAER
The Bulldogs got off to a fast start in defeating the Engineers, 4-2, on December 7 in New Haven, Conn. ... Two period first period goals were followed by a scoreless second, before Patrick Polino pulled the visitors to within 2-1 at 7:44 of the third ... Back-to-back tallies from Justin Pearson and Evan Smith pushed the Bulldogs advantage to 4-1, before Brady Ferner netted his first collegiate goal at 18:13 of the stanza ... Owen Savory registered 31 saves on the night.

2017-18 VS. BULLDOGS
RPI won the first matchup of last season's series, 2-1, at the Houston Field House, thanks to a late third period goal by Viktor Liljegren ... Linden Marshall made 32 saves for the win, while Corbin Kaczperski had 34 at the other end of the ice ... In the matchup in New Haven, Yale broke things open in the second period, scoring four times ... Meirs Moore netted the lone RPI tally in the contest, while Marshall turned away 32. 

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Senior Joe Snively has 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points in 18 games this season ... He is followed by sophomore Kevin O'Neil (4 goals, 10 assists) with 14 points and freshman Justin Pearson (4 goals, 8 assists) with 12.

YALE GOALTENDING
Senior Sam Tucker is 5-4-1 with a 2.14 goals against average and a .924 save percentage in 11 games (nine starts), including one shutout ... Junior Corbin Kaczperski (4-2-2) has a 2.74 goals against average and an .887 save percentage in nine starts.

SAVORY RECOGNIZED
Freshman goaltender Owen Savory earned ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week honors after helping the Engineers to a 5-2 victory over UConn on January 16 ... He made 31 saves in the contest, including at least 10 in each period and turned away all five shots he saw shorthanded.

CATALYST 
Junior forward Jacob Hayhurst has a hand in 51.1% (23 of 45) of RPI's goals this season, including 57.7% of tallies in ECAC Hockey play.

IN THE FREAKOUT!
The Engineers are 21-15-5 all-time in the Big Red Freakout! which dates back to February 25, 1978 – a 6-5 overtime win over New Hampshire ... The event has seen RPI produce a 17-game unbeaten streak (12-0-5) from 1991 to 2007.

VS. YALE
The Bulldogs are 3-2-0 as the visiting team in the Big Red Freakout! including two wins in the last 10 years (4-1 in both 2009 and 2015) ... One of RPI's most memorable Freakout! wins came on January 2011, when it defeated then-No. 1 Yale, 5-2, in front of 4,780 at the Houston Field House.

Marrello has won 59.0% of faceoffs in ECAC Hockey play, helping RPI to a 50.3% winning percentage as a team.

Freshman Jakub Lacka leads the Engineers with three power play goals, while junior Patrick Polino has the club's lone shorthanded tally ... Polino is scoring on 14.9% of his shots, which is tops on the team ... Juniors Will Reilly is a team-best +3 on the year.
