Skidmore Thoroughbreds Upends Men's Basketball

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Noah Meren and Edvinas Rupkus combined to score 46 points on 21 of 26 shooting to lead the Skidmore College men's basketball team to an 81-50 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a Liberty League game. 

Meren, a sophomore, connected on 11 of 14 shots to score a game-high 24 points to go with three rebounds, a steal, a block and an assist in 31 minutes. Rupkus, a senior, had 22 points by making 10 of 12 shots, along with three rebounds and an assist in 27 minutes. Fellow senior Chase Ta added 19 points (8 of 13) with six assists and six steals for the Thoroughbreds, who made 67.3% (35 of 52) of its shots.

Senior Tom Horvat led the Engineers with 17 points on 7 of 12 shooting with a rebound, two assists and a steal. Patrick Mahoney added eight points with three rebounds. As a team, RPI shot 40.0% (20 of 50) from the field and turned the ball over 10 times, which led to 20 Skidmore points.

The Thoroughbreds have won four straight conference games to remain in first place with a 12-6 overall and 10-2 league record. The Engineers are 10-8 and 5-6. Skidmore hits the road for its next four games, starting with a 7pm game on February 1 at Ithaca. The Engineers host Hobart on Tuesday at 7pm.
