Engineers and Dutchmen renue rivalry at 7th Mayor's Cup (7pm)

SEVENTH MAYOR'S CUP
RPI squares off with area-rival and 18th-ranked Union College on Tuesday night at the Times Union Center in Albany for the Seventh Annual Mayor's Cup ... Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm, which follows the two school's women's teams game, which begins at 4pm.

ENGINEERS DROP A PAIR
RPI fell to Brown (3-0) on Friday and No. 20 Yale (3-2) on Saturday, in the 42nd Annual Big Red Freakout! Owen Savory made 14 and 19 saves in the two contests, respectively, while freshman Ottoville Leppanen and Chase Zieky netted goals for the hosts ... Leppanen also had an assist, while classmate Jakub Lacka had two.
RPI LEADERS
Junior Jacob Hayhurst (3 goal, 20 assists) has a team-best 23 points through 24 games this season ... Junior Will Reilly (4 goals, 9 assists) and freshman Ottoville Leppanen (3 goals, 10 assists) have 13 points apiece, while classmate Todd Burgess (5 goals, 7 assists) has 12 ... Fellow junior Patrick Polino (7 goals, 4 assists) as 11 points.

BETWEEN THE PIPES
Sophomore Linden Marshall (5-8-0) has a 3.70 goals against average and an .890 save percentage as the starter 13 games this season ... Freshman Owen Savory made his collegiate debut in the season opener at UMass, stopping 8 of 9 shots in the third period ... He then earned the win in his first collegiate start on November 23 at UMass Lowell, saving 26 ... For the season, Savory is 2-9-0, with a 2.71 goals against average and a .920 save percentage in 13 appearances (11 starts) ... Senior Chase Perry made his season debut against Notre Dame on December 1 and has a 1.58 goals against average and a .944 save percentage in 37:59 of ice time.

ALL-TIME VS. UNION
RPI owns a 53-40-10 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to February 26, 1904 – a 6-2 victory for the Engineers in Albany ... The 114-year history has been highlighted by a number of streaks, including early RPI winning runs of nine and eight games ... The Dutchmen put together a seven-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2) from 2004 to 2007, before beating the Engineers in 10 straight – the long unbeaten in series history – from 2011 to 2013 ... After ending the dry spell, RPI quickly ran off wins in 6 of 7, before Union swept the three-game season series over the last two seasons.

RPI SWEEPS NO. 11 UNION
The Engineers opened ECAC Hockey play by sweeping then-11th-ranked Union in a home-and-home series ... RPI was victorious, 5-3, at the Houston Field House on October 26, before downing the Dutchmen, 4-2, in Schenectady he following night ... Junior Jacob Hayhurst recorded three assists in each game, while sophomore Donovan Ott (2 goals, 1 assist) and senior Brady Wiffen (1 goal, 2 assists) had three points apiece in the two contests ... Sophomore goaltender Linden Marshall stopped 68 of 73 shots, including 24 of 25 while the Engineers were shorthanded.

SWEEPS ONLY
The last time RPI and Union split a weekend ECAC Hockey series was November 12 and 13 of 2010 ... The Dutchmen won in Schenectady, 2-1, while the Engineers were victorious in Troy, 4-3 in overtime, the following night.

GOALS? YOU BET!
Both teams have a scored at least one goal in the last 30 meetings between RPI and Union and 25 of those games have seen at least five total tallies ... Union's Corey Milan was the last goaltender to register a shutout in the series, stopping all 31 shots he faced in a 3-0 victory on February 6, 2009 ... RPI's last shutout in the series belongs to RPI Athletics Hall of Famer Joel Laing, who made 31 saves in a 5-0 win at the Houston Field House on January 15, 2000.

AT THE MAYOR'S CUP

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
RPI's three transfers all made their debuts at the Catamount Cup in late December ... Chase Zieky registered his first collegiate goal against Vermont, while Mike Gornall picked up an assist on the play ... Defenseman Shane Bear registered his first Engineers goal on January 4 at Harvard.

HEATING UP
Junior Jacob Hayhurst has compiled one goal and eight assists for nine points over the last seven games ... He opened the season with a five-game point streak ... Fellow junior Chase Zieky has six points on three goals and three asists in five games.

NOMINATED
Jacob Hayhurst has been nominated for the prestigious Hobey Baker Memorial Award, given each year to the top player in college hockey.

Junior Jacob Hayhurst's 20 assists rank second in the country and first ECAC Hockey skaters ... His 23 points are good for fifth in the conference.

TOP FACE-OFF MEN
The Engineers have won 49.7% of their faceoffs this season, led by junior Jacob Hayhurst, who is at 52.5% ... Freshman Ture Linden is second at 51.7%, while junior Jake Marrello wins them at a 50.8% rate ... Marrello has won 55.9% of faceoffs in ECAC Hockey play, helping RPI to a 51.2% winning percentage as a team.
