GAMEDAY (Jan. 4, 2019): The Engineers begin the 2019 portion of their schedule with a Liberty League contest against Skidmore ... RPI enters with a 6-3 overall record and a 1-1 conference mark, while the Thoroughbreds are 5-3 and 3-0.

LONG BREAKS: The game is the first since December 8 for Rensselaer and the first since December 12 for Skidmore.

LAST TIME OUT: RPI defeated SUNY Cobleskill 78-59 in its most recent contest, while the Thoroughbreds took down Vassar 94-54 in mid-December.

NON-LEAGUE GAMES: Rensselaer and Skidmore play only Liberty League contests for the rest of the regular season.

DECEMBER 8: Patrick Mahoney scored 20 points, including 14 in the second half, and RPI defeated SUNY Cobleskill 78-59 ... The first 30 minutes was close throughout and RPI held a 34-32 lead at the break ... Mahoney also had seven rebounds and five assists ... Andreas Kontopidis added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Tom Horvat had 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals ... Antwan Claxton led Cobleskill with 16 points, along with a team-high seven rebounds.

RPI THIS SEASON: Rensselaer split its first four games before winning two straight and four of its last five contests.

CLIMBING THE LADDER: There are two active student-athletes in Rensselaer's 1,000 point club in Tom Horvat and Andreas Kontopidis ... A guard, Horvat has 1,315 points, which is fifth in school history ... He is 44 points from tying Paris Moore '05 for fourth ... Kontopidis, a forward, is 13th with 1,027 points, which is nine in back of Bill Mansell '78 for 12th ... Tom Ronan '92 is Rensselaer's all-time leading scorer with 1,724 points.

DECEMBER 12: Skidmore tallied its highest point total of the season (95), its largest margin of victory (40) and the most made 3-pointers (15) in a game as it defeated Vassar 94-54 in Saratoga Springs ... The Thoroughbreds tied a season-best with 10 steals and 20 assists ... Noah Meren led the way with 23 points, five rebounds, four assists and a career-best five steals ... Edvinas Rupkus added 19 points and six rebounds, while Chase Ta had 13 points, four rebounds and five assists ... Paul Grinde led the Brewers with 13 points, four rebounds and two blocks.

SKIDMORE TO DATE: The Thoroughbreds went 1-2 to begin the season before winning three consecutive contests, including a pair of Liberty League games in the North Country ... Following a loss at Middlebury, Skidmore improved to 5-3 with a win over Vassar to finish the fall semester.

COMMON OPPONENTS: The Engineers and Thoroughbreds have both played St. Lawrence and Clarkson ... RPI defeated the Golden Knights but lost to the Saints ... The Thoroughbreds beat both teams.

LAST SEASON AGAINST SKIDMORE: The Engineers and Thoroughbreds split last season's series with both teams winning on its home court ... In Troy on January 27, Tom Horvat scored 30 points, including the 1000th of his career, and RPI came back from an 11-point halftime deficit to win 75-70 ... Edvinas Rupkus and Chase Ta both had 19 point for the visitors ... Twenty-two days prior, Skidmore shrugged off a slow start with a big second half run on its way to a 76-56 win ... The Thoroughbreds pulled away with a 12-minute, 30-9 run to begin the second half ... Rupkus tallied a game-high 30 points with eight rebounds and four assists ... Dakpe Yiljep added 20 points, five rebounds and four blocks ... Andreas Kontopidis led RPI with 17 points ... Marcus Giese had 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
