Men's Hockey Welcomes Colgate and Cornell

Engineers host Raiders and Big Red on Friday and Saturday, respectively

FIRST TIME AROUND
RPI welcomes Colgate and 13th-ranked Cornell to the Houston Field House for a pair of ECAC Hockey contests this weekend ... The Engineers face the Raiders and Big Red for the first time this season, before turning around to play the pair on the road in less than three weeks.

UNION CAPTURES CUP
The 18th-ranked Dutchmen took home the Mayor's Cup Trophy for the third straight year after RPI and Union played to a scoreless tie, at the Times Union Center on January 29 ... Freshman goaltender earned MVP honors after recording 43 saves for the Engineers ... Senior captain Cole Maier came through in the shootout, which determined the winner, scoring in the sixth round ... RPI defensemen Shane Bear and Kyle Hallbauer netted shootout tallies.

RPI LEADERS
Junior Jacob Hayhurst (3 goal, 20 assists) has a team-best 23 points through 25 games this season ... Junior Will Reilly (4 goals, 9 assists) and freshman Ottoville Leppanen (3 goals, 10 assists) have 13 points apiece, while classmate Todd Burgess (5 goals, 7 assists) has 12 ... Fellow junior Patrick Polino (7 goals, 4 assists) as 11 points.

BETWEEN THE PIPES
Sophomore Linden Marshall (5-8-0) has a 3.70 goals against average and an .890 save percentage as the starter 13 games this season ... Freshman Owen Savory made his collegiate debut in the season opener at UMass, stopping 8 of 9 shots in the third period ... He then earned the win in his first collegiate start on November 23 at UMass Lowell, saving 26 ... For the season, Savory is 2-9-1, with a 2.48 goals against average and a .928 save percentage in 14 appearances (12 starts) ... Senior Chase Perry made his season debut against Notre Dame on December 1 and has a 1.58 goals against average and a .944 save percentage in 37:59 of ice time.

ALL-TIME VS. COLGATE
RPI leads the all-time series against the Raiders, 64-62-5 ... The Raiders won the inaugural meeting, 6-1, on February 19, 1916, in Hamilton ... RPI's first victory came on December 16, 1950 – a 4-3 triumph in Troy.

RECENTLY
The Raiders are 4-1-0 over the last five meetings, including a 2-1 series victory over the Engineers in the First Round of the ECAC Hockey Tournament last March ... RPI has a 4-1-1 record in the last six home meetings, with Colgate winning the most recent, 5-2, on February 24, 2018.

2017-18 VS. COLGATE
Colgate went 4-1 against the Engineers last season, including a 2-1 playoff series win ... The Raiders defeated RPI, 3-0, in Hamilton on February 2, 2018, before coming away with a 5-2 win at the Houston Field House on February 24 ... In the postseason series, Colgate won the opener, 3-1, before Linden Marshall made 29 saves in a 1-0 shutout win in Game 2 ... The Raiders sealed the series win with a 2-0 win in Game 3, thanks to goals from Josh McKechey and Evan Tschumi.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Coming into the weekend at 7-15-2 overall, Colgate has a 4-6-2 ECAC Hockey mark ... Junior Bobby McMann leads the way offensively, with six goals and 10 assists for 16 points, while sophomore Josh McKechney (3 goals, 9 assists) has 12 ... Classmate Nick Austin (2 goals, 8 assists) rounds out the top three scorers with 10 points from the blue line ... In goal, freshman Mitch Benson (6-13-2) has started 21 of the team's 24 games ... He has a 2.76 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.

ALL-TIME VS. CORNELL
The Big Red lead the all-time series with RPI, 63-37-10, including a 4-0 victory in the inaugural meeting on January 31, 1908 in Albany.

RECENTLY
Cornell is 3-2-2 over the last seven meetings, including a split of the season series in 2017-18 ... The two teams have split the last five meetings in Troy, 2-2-1, with the Big Red winning the last two at the Houston Field House.

2017-18 VS. CORNELL
RPI defeated then-No. 1 Cornell, 2-1, at Lynah Rink on February 3, behind goals from Jacob Hayhurst and Brady Wiffen ... Linden Marshall made 29 saves ... In the rematch at the Houston Field House on Cornell scored two goals in second and third periods to take home a 4-2 win ... Morgan Barron had a goal and an assist for the visitors, while Hayhurst did the same for the Engineers, who also received a pair of assists from TJ Samec.

FOR THE BIG RED
The 13th-ranked Big Red are 12-6-1 overall and 8-3-1 in ECAC Hockey, sitting in a tie for first place ... Sophomore Morgan Barron (9 goals, 12 assists) leads the way with 21 points in 19 games, while classmate Cam Donaldson (11 goals, 6 assists) and senior Mitch Vanderlaan (4 goals, 13 assists) are tied with 17 points apiece ... Junior Yanni Kaldis (4 goals, 13 assists) leads all Cornell defensemen with 13 points.

CORNELL NETMINDERS
Sophomores Matthew Galajda (8-5-0) and Austin McGrath (4-1-1) have split goaltending duties for the Big Red this season, playing in 13 and nine games, respectively ... Galajda has a 2.21 goals against average and a .903 save percentage, while McGrath has a 1.92 goals against average and a .927 save percentage.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
RPI's three transfers all made their debuts at the Catamount Cup in late December ... Chase Zieky registered his first collegiate goal against Vermont, while Mike Gornall picked up an assist on the play ... Defenseman Shane Bear registered his first Engineers goal on January 4 at Harvard.

TOP FACE-OFF MEN
The Engineers have won 49.5% of their faceoffs this season, led by junior Jacob Hayhurst, who is at 52.1% ... Junior Jake Marrello is second at 51.0%, while freshman Ture Linden wins them at a 50.8% rate ... Marrello has won 55.9% of faceoffs in ECAC Hockey play, helping RPI to a 51.2% winning percentage as a team.

MISCELLANEOUS LEADERS
Freshman Jakub Lacka leads the Engineers with three power play goals, while junior Patrick Polino has the club's lone shorthanded tally ... Polino is scoring on 14.9% of his shots, which is tops on the team ... Junior Will Reilly and freshman Jake Johnson are tied for a team-best even rating.

RPI is 2-0 when Donovan Ott records a point this season ... The Engineers are 7-6 when Jacob Hayhurst registers an assist and 5-3 when Patrick Polino collects at least one point.
