Swimming & Diving Teams Begin Seasons at RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's swimming & diving team registered nine individual victories and two relay wins on its way to defeating RIT 183-117 in the first meet of the season for both teams. The homestanding Tigers defeated the Engineers' women's team 162-138.

Senior Graham Zola and sophomore Alex Aung both had two wins for RPI, while Zola also swam on a pair of first place relays. He won the 50 free and 100 free and helped the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay to firsts. Joining Zola on the 200 medley relay was Nicos Prokopiou, Aleskey Makarov and Tony Min. 

Min went on to triumph in the 200 free and Prokopiou captured the 100 back. Aung was victorious in the 200 butterfly and 100 butterfly.

Trevor Maxfield (1000 free), Matthew Youngbar (500 free) and Lorenzo Gurri (200 IM) all had wins with Maxfield helping the 200 free relay team to a win, along with Zola, Jonathan Yang and Steven Yu.

Four Rensselaer women earned its eight victories with each capturing two events. Freshman Ola Nawrocki won the 1000 free and 500 free, senior Emily Mayoras was first in the 50 free and 100 free, sophomore Megan Beaulieu won the 200 back and 200 IM and senior Jessica Kugelman scored the most points off both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards.

The Engineers return to action on October 26 when they host Ithaca College in a meet at Robison Pool (2pm).
