Lettko Named League's Top Defensive Performer

Senior center back had impact at both ends of the field in critical Liberty League win

TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its weekly award winners from women's soccer and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Meagan Lettko has been named Defensive Performer of the Week.

A senior center back from Averill Park, N.Y., Lettko anchored a back line that surrendered just three shots (1 on goal), while playing all 90 minutes in RPI's 1-0 victory over Skidmore on Saturday. She scored the game-winning goal in the 58th minute, before limiting the Thoroughbreds to one off-target shot the rest of the way.

Lettko has started all 11 games for the Engineers this season and has two goals for four points. Averaging 90.6 minutes per match, she has six shots, including three on goal, with one game-winning tally. Defensively, RPI has surrendered just 0.64 goals per game on an average of 9.5 shots. The Engineers have conceded only 27 corner kicks (2.45 per match) with six clean sheets.

In 57 career game at RPI, Lettko has two goals on 29 shots, including 15 on target.

A multiple Liberty League All-Academic honoree and mechanical engineering major, Lettko is the 154th Grand Marshall (highest elected student leader on campus) at Rensselaer. Awarded the Founder's Award of Excellence, she is also a member of the Phalanx Honor Society and a White Key Award recipient.

The Engineers (5-4-2; 2-2-0 Liberty League) return to action this weekend when they travel to No. 4 William Smith and RIT on Friday (4pm) and Saturday (2pm), respectively.
