Women's Hockey Ties at Holy Cross, 2-2

Ondrick nets game-tying goal, while Nystrøm saves 50

WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior Morgan Ondrick netted the game-tying goal late in the third period to help the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team to a 2-2 tie at College of the Holy Cross, Sunday afternoon at Hart Center. Wit the draw, the Engineers are now 0-6-1 overall, while the Crusaders are 0-6-3.

An evenly played first period saw each team register nine shots. Rensselaer junior Lauren Severson got the visitors on the board first, netting her first goal of the season at 12:53 of the opening frame. Seniors Kendra Farole and Blake Orosz assisted on the play.

Holy Cross ramped up its pressure in the second period, but RPI freshman goaltender Ena Nystrøm was equal to the task, stopping all 25 shots she faced to help the Engineers hold on to their 1-0 advantage.

Katie MacCuaig was finally able to break through at 12:27 of the third, knotting the score at 1-1. Helpers went to Rachel Moore and Hannah Gillis. Holy Cross then pulled ahead (2-1) at 12:27 of the third on Sarah Stevens' first of the year, with assists going to Carly Beniek and Paige McArthur.

Ondrick tied the game at 2-2 with 3:13 to play, with Farole once again providing a helper. The goal was the first Ondrick's career.

Nystrøm (0-3-1) finished with 50 saves for the second consecutive game, while Jada Brenon (0-5-2) had 21 stops at the other end of the ice.

Rensselaer is back in action on Friday and Saturday, when it hosts St. Lawrence and No. 4 Clarkson, respectively. The Crusaders host Providence and New Hampshire on Friday and Sunday.
