Women's Basketball Wins Seventh Straight Game

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Celia Tomlinson scored 23 points with 11 rebounds and three others reached double digits as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) won its seventh straight game 84-68 at Liberty League foe Bard College. RPI improves to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while the Raptors are now 4-5 and 0-3.

Both teams started fast, with RPI making 12-of-18 from the floor and Bard making four three-pointers in the first 10 minutes. The guests led, 26-21, heading into the second quarter.

RPI's size advantage and rebounding edge started to take a major toll in the second quarter. Sixteen of RPI's 18 second-quarter points were scored in the paint, and nine of those 16 were on second chances. The Raptors hung tough, and it was 44-34 at halftime.

RPI outscored Bard, 18-13, in the third quarter to push the lead to 15, and the Raptors just couldn't get closer than 13 the rest of the way. The rebounding numbers at the end were 48-19 in favor of RPI, resulting in the Engineers taking almost 20 more shots than Bard in the game.

In addition to Tomlinson's double-double, Courtney Lewis scored 18 points and Ines Ortea had 16 with seven assists and four steals. Freshman Heather Converse scored 13 points with nine rebounds and five others got in the scoring column. Defensively, Rensselaer forced 17 turnovers with the help of 10 steals.

Four players also finished in double figures for Bard, led by Jess Rylander, who had 19 points, five assists, two steals and a block. Christina Kiser and Caleigh DeCaprio added 15 points apiece and Olivia Couture added 11 points, a block and a steal.

RPI is right back in action on Thursday when it travels to Smith College for a non-league game to close out the semester. Bard returns to the court with a non-league game at Pratt on January 7.
