Men's Basketball Begins League Play at Home

GAMEDAY (Dec. 6, 2019): The Engineers welcome St. Lawrence for the first Liberty League contest for both schools ... RPI is 3-2 overall, while the Saints are 1-3.

THREE STRAIGHT: Rensselaer has won each of its last three games, two of which came on the road.

LAST TIME OUT: Junior forward Patrick Mahoney had a game-high 25 points to lead RPI to a 70-52 win over Sage on November 26 ... Freshman forward Jonny Angbazo finished with 16 points off the bench having made 7-of-10 field goals with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals ... Senior forward Kevin Davis led the Engineers in rebounding with nine ... He added a pair of blocks and assists to go with two points ... Sage sophomore Deonte Sherwood tallied 11 points.

RECOGNIZED: The latest Liberty League weekly award winners in men's basketball were RPI junior Patrick Mahoney as the Performer of the Week and freshman Jonny Angbazo as the Rookie of the Week ... In a win at Sage, Mahoney had 25 points on 9 of 21 shooting (3 of 8 from 3-point range), while pulling down a rebound ... He added two assists and two steals in a game-high 31 minutes ... Angbazo scored 16 points on 7 of 10 shooting ... He also had six rebounds, a game-high four assists and two steals in 29 minutes.

GAME 3: RPI outscored Cobleskill by 10 points in both halves and the Engineers posted their first victory of the season, 80-60 ... Sophomore Mason Memmelaar scored 21 points with seven rebounds, an assist and two steals ... Junior Patrick Mahoney had 17 points and a team-high eight rebounds and Mitchel Wayand scored 11 points.

BOARD WORK: The Engineers had a 48-28 advantage in rebounds against Cobleskill ... RPI had nearly as many offensive boards (24) as the Fighting Tigers had in total (28).

OPENING WEEKEND: Rensselaer began its season at the Rick Martin – Hampton Inn Tournament, where it dropped contests to Rutgers-Newark (61-58) and the host, Westfield State (78-52) ... In the first game, the Knights got a pair of clutch three pointers late in the second half to take their first lead of the game and held off RPI ... Rensselaer was led by 21 points from Patrick Mahoney and 11 from Mason Memmelaar ... Memmelaar was the lone Engineer in double figures the next day ... He had 18 points along with five rebounds.

ST. LAWRENCE TO DATE: The Saints dropped their first three games (84-74 vs. Potsdam, 89-84 at Plattsburgh and 97-87 at Canton) but rebounded with an 83-82 overtime win over No. 25 Oswego on Tuesday in Canton ... Freshman Trent Adamson totaled 21 points and scored the final two layups in OT to lift the Saints.
