Women's Basketball Finishes With 67-46 Win

TROY, N.Y. – Senior Elizabeth Eckhardt had a game-high 18 points and classmate LaKissa Martin had 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team to a 67-46 victory over Clarkson University in a Liberty League contest at East Campus Arena.

The game was the season finale for both teams with RPI finishing 12-13 overall and 7-11 in the conference and the Golden Knights at 7-18 and 4-14.

After building an 11-7 lead after the first quarter, the Engineers scored 14 of the first 18 points of the second for a 25-11 advantage 5:17 into the frame. Eckhardt and Martin both had five points and Ines Ortea scored four in that span. The teams split the next 10 points before Clarkson's Molly Stewart ended the half with a layup to get the visitors to within 30-18.

Martin had nine points and Ortea eight for the Engineers, who shot 38.2% (13 of 34) and held a rebounding margin of +10 (27-27) in the first half. Stewart's nine points paced the Golden Knights, who made 8 of 27 (29.6%) of their shots.

Clarkson's Rachel Marion made a three pointer to open the third, but RPI went on a 20-3 run after that for a 50-24 lead with just under three minutes to play in the quarter. Eckhardt had seven of those points, while Courtney Lewis added five points. Four others had two points apiece for Rensselaer, which held a 52-33 lead after three quarters.

RPI, which extended its margin by two points in the fourth quarter, got double figures from Eckhardt, Martin and Ortea, who scored 17 points with nine rebounds. Six others had at least two points.

Carly Assimon had a team-high 11 points for the Golden Knights. Kati Gotch scored 10 points and Stewart had nine with a team-best seven rebounds.
