Rally Falls Short for Baseball Against MCLA

Trailblazers hold on for 7-6 win in non-league affair

TROY, N.Y. - Christian Seariac went 3 for 4 with two runs batted in to lead the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) baseball team to a 7-6 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Wednesday afternoon at Robison Field. With the win, the Trailblazers improve to 6-9, while the Engineers drop to 7-6.

RPI took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third, when sophomore Jimmy Jankowski squeezed home freshman Dylan Albert. Fellow rookie Cole Paquin then singled home senior Austin Lawrence.

Seariac got the MCLA's five-run fourth started with an RBI-single to center, which scored right fielder Austin Rachiele. Logan Rumbolt then plated two with a base hit to center, before a passed ball and an RBI-single Jake Ferrara capped the rally.

The Engineers got one back in the bottom of the inning on a Lawrence double to left that scored Jake Chekian. Jankowski then brought RPI to within 5-4 in the sixth with an RBI-groundout, scoring Albert from third.

A two-run seventh provided some insurance for the Trailblazers that they ended up needing, as the Engineers loaded the bases in the ninth, but could only scratch one run across. Dillon Maxon came in to earn the save for MCLA, allowing one inherited run to score in one inning of work.

Senior righthander Patrick McMackin was perfect over the first 3.0 innings, striking out four without a walk.

The Engineers are back in action this weekend when they host Bard for a doubleheader (1pm). MCLA visits Framingham on Saturday (11am).
