No. 16 Men's Lacrosse Scores 26 Goals in Win

TROY, N.Y. - Owen Putman scored five goals, JT Kelly had four and two others had three as the No. 16 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team defeated Bard College 26-3 in a Liberty League contest at East Campus Stadium. The Engineers improve to 8-1 and 2-0, while the Raptors fall to 3-3 and 0-1.
 
RPI scored the first 10 goals of the game and led 11-1 after the first quarter with Putman scoring four times, Cooper Urban twice and Kelly twice. Kevin Frega, Connor Glosner and JP McGrady also tallied for the Engineers. Peter Sojka had Bard's goal.
 
Rensselaer potted the only goals of the second quarter and went into the locker room with an 18-1 lead. Putman and Lucas Bastarache both had two goals in the frame.
 
Seven different players scored in the second half for the Engineers, including two from Glosner. Sojka had Bard's two goals in the final 30 minutes.
 
Putman finished with nine points, Kelly had eight and Urban notched four. Tyler Hancock was 14 of 21 on faceoffs with eight ground balls and Nick DeOliveira won 9 of 11 with seven pickups. Keaton Ackermann caused four turnovers and three goalies combined to make five saves.
 
Sojka added four ground balls and Sid Subramani had five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Lyle Healey stopped 26 shots in net.
 
Rensselaer returns to the field on Saturday at 1pm when Skidmore College visits East Campus Stadium. Bard hosts No. 3 RIT on Saturday at noon. Both games are Liberty League contests.
