Women's Tennis Bested by Bombers in Ithaca

4/20/2019 5:38:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. - Freshman Jolee McCluskey partnered with classmate Elly Klages to win at No. 3 doubles before she captured No. 6 singles, but it was not enough as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss at Ithaca College on Saturday. The Bombers improve to 3-11 overall and 3-5 in the Liberty League, which qualifies them for a post-season tournament bid. The Engineers fall to 6-13 and 0-6.

With their team down 1-0, McCluskey and Klages earned an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles and RPI nearly took the lead but a late rally by Andrea Valencia and Nisha Rajamohan at No. 2 doubles fell short, 8-6.

Valencia did earn a victory in singles, winning at No. 3 before McCluskey closed out the morning match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.
