Women's Lacrosse Falls in Playoffs, 13-11

Clarkson scores final seven goals to slip past Engineers in First Round

POTSDAM, N.Y. - Sydney Roderick scored six goals, including four in the final 11 minutes to lead the Clarkson University women's lacrosse team to a come-from-behind, 13-11, victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Tuesday afteroon in Liberty League First Round action. With the win, the Golden Knights improve to 12-6 overall and advance to play Ithaca in the semifinals, while the Engineers conclude their season at 8-6.

Trailing 11-6 with 13 minutes to play, the hosts netted seven goals to earn the narrow two-goal victory. Mia Petrone got Clarkson going on the 7-0 run, pulling the Golden Knights to within 11-7. Roderick then netted two straight, including a man-up tally with 7:10 remaining to draw to 11-9.

Marisa Clark scored 31 seconds later, before Roderick tied the game at 11-11 with 5:54 to play. Roderick then gave the hosts to lead for good with 4:37 left, before Katie Sargeant added an insurance marker two minutes later.

RPI had two shots in the final minute of the game, but senior Lauren Guiry fired wide, before Nora Molino was stopped by Carolynn Pechmann with 26 seconds left.

The Engineers led for the majority of the contest, scoring the game's first three goals in a span of 9:25 to open the game. A 4-1 run by the Golden Knights pulled them even at 4-4 with 6:13 on the clock in the first.

Senior Maddy Aslansan powered home a pair to finish off the half for strong or the Engineers, before junior Liz Brady put RPI up 7-4, just 1:05 into the second half.

After Clarkson pulled two back, including one from Roderick, the Engineers ran off four straight goals to open up their largest lead of the game at 11-6 with 13:05 to play. Two of the tallies came with an extra attacker.

Milinski (8-6) matched a season-high with 17 saves in a losing effort, while Pechmann picked up the win in relief, stopping one shot over the final 17:19 of the game. Starter Samantha Gladd also made just one save in the first 42:41 of play.

The win was the first for Clarkson over RPI in Potsdam, as the Engineers had won the previous 14 meetings away from Troy.
