TROY, N.Y. - Senior
Sam Krumbhaar scored 18 points and two others reached double digits for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team as it defeated Union College 67-54 in a Liberty League game at East Campus Arena. The Engineers, who led for more than 38 minutes of the game, improve to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference. The Dutchwomen drop to 4-5 and 1-2.
In addition to leading all scorers with her 18 points, Krumbhaar also had a game-high six assists with five rebounds and two steals. Classmate
Celia Tomlinson had 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds, along with four blocked shots. Junior
Courtney Lewis had 16 points and freshman
Heather Converse pulled down eight boards and scored six points off the bench.
Union was led by senior Elly Vaughan, who scored 17 points with four rebounds and three blocks. Junior Corina Lindsay also reached double figures in scoring with a dozen. Laura Vinton, a sophomore, had a game-high 11 rebounds and four points.
Trailing 7-6 two minutes into the game, Rensselaer scored 12 of the final 18 points of the first quarter and never trailed the rest of the contest. Four different players scored in that stretch for RPI, led by Krumbhaar's five points and a three-pointer from sophomore

Ines Ortea made it a 20-13 lead a minute into the second quarter before the Dutchwomen pulled to within three points (22-19) midway through the frame. RPI built the lead to eight points on a three-pointer from Lewis with under a minute to play in the half, but a Lindsay triple 30 seconds later made it a 36-31 game at the break.
The Engineers held the Dutchwomen to only 10 points on 25% (4 of 16) shooting in the third quarter to increase its advantage to 50-41 heading into the fourth. Freshman
Erin Doyle, Converse and Sharry tallied the first three baskets of the last quarter for a 56-41 lead with just over seven minutes to play and Union was unable to get any closer than eight points.
The Dutchwomen, who shot 37.3% (22 of 59) for the game, travel to RIT for a game on Saturday at 2pm, while the Engineers host Skidmore College at 2pm. Both contests are Liberty League games.
