ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT (4-9, 1-5 Liberty League) men's basketball team was defeated 72-59 by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (11-2, 6-0 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Clark Gymnasium on Friday evening.
Mason Memmelaar led Rensselaer with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Jonny Angbazo tallied 15 points off the bench, while
Will Rubin chipped in 13 points.
Patrick Mahoney tallied 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Engineers, who shot 47.1 percent overall including 61.5 percent in the second half.
RIT shot 50.0 percent from the floor on 25-of-50 shooting. The Tigers made 5-of-15 from beyond the arc, and went 4-of-9 from the foul line. Keegan Ocorr led the Tigers with 14 points. Curtis Nesbit and Kevin Ryan each scored 12 points, while Will Atkinson chipped in eight points.
RIT led 35-24 at halftime, shooting 61.5 percent from the floor on 16-of-26 shooting from the floor. RPI began the second half with a 7-1 spurt to cut the RIT lead to five points. Rubin gave the Engineers the lead for good with a free throw with 8:07 to play. The Tigers were outscored 48-24 in the second half by the Engineers, who have now won 11 straight games.
RPI returns to action on Saturday at Hobart College, while RIT hosts Bard College on Saturday. Both games are league contests that begin at 4pm.
