TROY, N.Y. - Seven student-athletes had multiple victories, including four with three, and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's swimming & diving team kept its perfect dual meet record intact with a 198-67 win over Union College at Robison Pool. The Engineers are now 6-0, while the Dutchmen are 1-5.
The foursome of
Nicos Prokopiou,
Jonathan Yang,
Alex Aung and
Graham Zola got things started for Rensselaer by winning the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.06, more than three seconds in front of the runner-up (1:39.44).
Trevor Maxfield followed with a 10-second win in the 1000 freestyle before
Tony Min won the 200 free.
Prokopiou earned his second win of the day by being the first to touch the wall in the 100 backstroke and Yang won his first individual event, the 100 breaststroke. Aung captured the 200 fly and Zola won the 50 freestyle.
Min, a freshman, edged teammate
Anthony Toskas, also a freshman, in the 100 free by less than a second (49.24 - 49.72) before he helped the 200 free relay team conclude the action with a win. Maxfield,
Harrison Bass and Toskas were also on the squad.
Yang earned his third win in the 200 breaststroke and Maxfield had his third in the 500 free, which he won by more than five seconds (453.24 - 4:58.53). Aung enjoyed a 3-second win in the 100 butterfly.
Senior
Alex Chused won from both diving boards.
RPI is right back in action on Saturday at noon when it hosts the Kumpf Invitational.
