ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Three Tigers scored in double-figures as the RIT (5-9, 3-3 Liberty League) women's basketball team defeated first-place Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (9-4, 5-1 Liberty League) 86-71 in Liberty League action from Clark Gymnasium on Friday evening.
RIT shot 58.5 percent from the floor on 31-of-53 shooting. The Tigers made 10-of-20 from beyond the arc, and made 14-of-20 free throws. Brooke Stanley led RIT with 23 points, five rebounds and three assists. Kaleesha Joseph tallied 22 points and five rebounds, while Sabrina Wolfe finished with 18 points.
Celia Tomlinson led Rensselaer with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Courtney Lewis tallied 15 points, while
Ines Ortea chipped in 18 points for the Engineers, who shot 40.0 percent from the floor.
RIT led 26-18 after the first quarter, and 41-39 at halftime. The Tigers outscored the Engineers 21-16 in the third quarter and tacked on 24 points in the fourth quarter to hang on for the 15-point win. Rensselaer cut the RIT lead to seven points midway through the fourth on a pair of free throws from
Sam Krumbhaar.
RPI returns to action on Saturday at William Smith College, while RIT hosts Bard College on Saturday. Both games are league contests that begin at 2pm.
