Women's Hockey Defeated by Brown, 2-0

Calla Isaac makes 35 saves to thwart Engineers

TROY, N.Y. – Senior Calle Isaac stopped all 35 shots she faced to lead the Brown University women's hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday afternoon at the Houston Field House. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 2-14-1 overall (2-9-1 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 0-24-1 (0-14-0 ECAC Hockey).

Junior captain Veronica Alois (Andover, MA/East Coast Wizards) scored the eventual game-winning goal at 10:46 of the first period, sticking home the rebound of a shot by senior blueliner Lucinda Quigley (Newton, MA/East Coast Wizards) for her first goal of the season. Sophomore Lizzy Gross (Scarborough, ME/Kent School) earned the secondary assist on the power play tally.

After being outshot, 13-5, in the first period the Engineers picked up their play in the second and generated numerous chances in the frame, en route to a 19-8 shots advantage. Senior Sabrina Repaci (Toronto, ON/Toronto Jr. Aeros) hit the right post late in a power play chance with eight minutes left in the period, following an extended 5-on-3 advantage in which Isaac needed make a number of stops.

Brown doubled its lead late in the frame, when junior Darby Melia (Marshfield, MA/Thayer Academy) redirected a puck past RPI freshman netminder Amanda Rampado (Stoney Creek, ON/Stoney Creek Sabres) from the low slot. Senior defenseman Maybelline Beiring (Calumet, MI/Lansing Spartans) delivered the point shot for the primary assist, while sophomore Tina Paolillo (East Haven, CT/Kent School) collected the secondary.

RPI outshot the Bears, 11-4, in the third period, but could not solve Isaac, despite lifting Rampado for an extra attacker with over three minutes to play.

Isaac (2-8-0) had 19 saves in the second period and 11 in the third to help preserve the victory, while Rampado (0-7-0) had 23 stops at the other end of the ice. Brown wound up 1 for 6 on the power play and Rensselaer was 0 for 3.

RPI is back on the ice on Friday, when it travel to Schenectady to face Union (6pm), before hosting the Dutchwomen in the Third Mayor's Cup at the Times Union Center on Saturday (3pm). Brown visits Yale on Tuesday night (7:30pm).
