SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Senior
Emily Mayoras won two individual events and helped a relay team to victory as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming & diving team triumphed over Skidmore College 149-90 on Saturday afternoon. The dual meet win is the fifth in a row for the Engineers, who are 5-2 on the season. The Thoroughbreds drop to 4-3.
Mayoras swam the opening leg on the victorious 400 medley relay team to begin the meet before winning the 50 free and the 100 backstroke. She and teammates
Ola Nawrocki,
Diana Lewis and
Mariam Tharwat posted a time of 4:12.64, which was almost five seconds ahead of the runner-up (4:17.20). The margins of victory in the other events for Mayoras were tighter as she won the 50 free by .60 (26.11 - 26.71) and the 100 back by .65 over teammate
Gwyneth Yuen (1:01.16 - 1:01.81).
Lewis and Tharwat also had individual wins, taking first in the 100 fly (1:03.53) and 100 free (57.62), respectively.
Ashley German was a fourth member of Rensselaer's squad with a pair of victories. She won the 500 free by nearly five seconds (5:32.96) and then helped the 400 free relay to a victory to close out the meet. German was the third swimmer on the relay, following
Ayah Tharwat and
Alyssa Cahill and just ahead of Yuen.
Other winners for the Engineers were
Kat Lopez in the 1000 free (by 25 seconds),
Megan Beaulieu in the 200 individual medley and
Darby Burns from the 1-meter diving board.
RPI is back in the pool next Saturday at Hamilton College for its final dual meet of the season.
