MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Senior
Sarah Dalakos had one of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's three victories and she helped the 4x200 relay team to a second place finish as the Engineers earned runner-up at the nine-school, multi-divisional Middlebury Invitational. RPI had 153.50 points, which trailed only the host Panthers, who had 268.50. The University of Vermont was third with 65 points, followed by St. Lawrence University (60) and Franklin Pierce University (46).
Dalakos was victorious in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 8.04 after qualifying for the final with a time of 8.14. Teammate
Kat Morin, who ran an 8.08 to lead the qualifiers, was second in the final with an 8.12. Dalakos and Morin ran the first two legs of the 4x200, followed by
Elizabeth Evans and
Alyssa Richtarek with the foursome registering a time of 1:50.12, which was less than two seconds from victory.
Rensselaer's other winner on the track was sophomore
Madison Perez, who ran the 500 in 1:20.16. She outpaced Richtarek, who ran a 1:22.24 to finish second. Also on the track, junior
Laura Klang was second in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:38.83.
In the field events, RPI saw
Jacy Scharlow and
Maya Verma finish 1-2 in the high jump with efforts of 1.65 meters and 1.60, respectively. In third was a competitor from Vermont, who also reached 1.60 meters.
Another runner-up for Rensselaer, its sixth, was sophomore
Ileana Sirois in the long jump. She reached 4.95 meters.
The Engineers return to action next weekend with competitors going to Harvard University and Utica College.
