43RD FREAKOUT!
The Engineers welcome the University of Vermont to the Houston Field House on Saturday for the 43rd Annual Big Red Freakout! (7pm).
FREAKOUT! HISTORY
RPI is 21-16-5 overall in the history over the event, having run off 17 games unbeaten (12-0-5) from 1991 to 2007 ... The inaugural Freakout! was played between RPI and New Hampshire on February 25, 1978, with the Engineers winning, 6-5 in overtime ... RPI has dropped a record five straight coming into Saturday, including a 3-2 defeat to Yale last year ... The last victory came on February 8, 2014, when the Engineers beat Brown, 4-1.

Alec Calvaruso (1-2-0) has a 2.61 goals against average and a .909 save percentage in four games (3 starts).
ALL-TIME VS. VERMONT
RPI has split the all-time series with Vermont, 32-32-7 … The Catamounts won the inaugural meeting, 6-1, on November 25, 1972, in Canton, New York.
RECENTLY
Vermont has won the last five meetings … RPI's last victory in the series came on January 31, 2004 – a 3-2 overtime win in Burlington.
IN THE BIG RED FREAKOUT!Â
The Engineers and Catamounts have met three times in the Big Red Freakout! and all have ended in 2-2 ties (1992, 1994 and 2001).
AT HOME
Rensselaer is 18-8-5 at home against Vermont, but have not beaten the Catamounts at the Houston Field House since November 14, 2003 ... Nathan Marsters made 26 saves in the contest and Nick Economakos had three points (1 goal, 2 assists).
FORMER ECAC HOCKEY FOE
The Engineers went 31-24-7 against Vermont in ECAC Hockey play, before the Catamounts left for Hockey East following the 2004-05 season.
LAST SEASON
Max Kaufman scored a pair of goals to lead the University of Vermont to a 4-2 victory over RPI, in the Catamount Cup finale at Gutterson Fieldhouse, on December 29, 2018.
STREAKS
Vermont's longest winning streak over RPI is six games from 1995-1996 … Rensselaer won eight straight from 1983-1986.

RPI and Vermont have played in 13 overtime games going 2-4-7 in those contests.
SHUTOUTS
Rensselaer has shutout Vermont a total of three times, most recently on January 25, 2002 – a 6-0 whitewashing at the Houston Field House behind the late Nathan Marsters '04, who made 27 saves for one of his 10 career shutouts.

Rensselaer .556 winning percentage against Vermont which is the fifth highest against any current or former ECAC Hockey opponent.

Vermont is paced by freshman Jacques Bouquot, who has three goals and nine assists for 12 points ... Classmate Andrew Lucas (3 goals, 8 assists) is right behind him with 11 points, while junior Ace Cowans (6 goals, 4 assists) rounds out the top three with 10 points.
VERMONT GOALTENDING
Senior Stefanos Lekkas (3-15-4) has a 2.94 goals against average and a .910 save percentage in 22 starts, including three shutouts ... Junior Tyler Harmon (0-1-0) has a 2.86 goals against average and an .897 save percentage in one start ... Lekkas is 20th in NCAA history in total saves with 3,595 through 124 career games.
ALUMNI RECOGNITION
RPI will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 1995 ECAC Hockey Championship team on Saturday during the Big Red Freakout! In addition, the team will salute those in attendance from the 1985 National Championship squad, which is celebrating 35 years ... A number of notable members from the two teams will be honored between the first and second periods during Freakout! Including Mike Tamburro '96 and Mike Sadeghpour '85.
HOW LOW CAN YOU GO?
The Engineers have a 2.19 team goals against average in 15 ECAC Hockey contests this season, which ranks third in the league and 12th nationally.
CONFERENCE SUCCESS
Individually, all three RPI netminders have had solid seasons in ECAC Hockey play ...
Owen Savory is 5-5-1 with a 2.23 goals against average and a .920 save percentage, while
Alec Calvaruso (1-1-0) has a 2.03 goals against average and a .921 save percentage ... Not to be outdone,
Linden Marshall (1-1-0) boasts a 1.83 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.
ELITE COMPANY
Only three RPI teams have posted a sub-2.20 team goals against average in ECAC Hockey play over the last 20 years, including 2003-04 (1.98), 2015-16 (2.16) and 2012-13 (2.19) ... The 2019-20 Engineers are at 2.19 with seven conference games to play.
VERY GOOD BOYS
At 7.50 penalty minutes per game, the Engineers are the least penalized team in the nation ... Alaska-Anchorage, the most penalized team, is averaging 15.5 minutes per contest ... Amongst ECAC Hockey foes, Harvard is right behind RPI at 7.89 minutes per game.
