At Rensselaer, we are proud to recognize the student-athletes who are members of the Class of 2020. We thank them for their hard work, dedication and tremendous efforts in representing the Institute in a first-class manner academically and athletically. We wish them well in their futures.

SENIOR CELEBRATION SERIES: Matt Boldt

While at Rensselaer:
Defense … Played 25 career games … Started all six games as senior … Four ground balls and two caused turnovers in 2020 … Mechanical Engineering major ... Dean's Honor List.

From the coaching staff:
"One of the ways we define our core value of Competitive Excellence is by helping your teammates. Matt was a walk-on his freshman year and worked his way to being a starting defenseman as a senior. He learned a lot through that journey and constantly passed that knowledge along to his teammates. He would continuously give the underclassmen tips and coach them up on the sideline. He was always leading and showing them the way. Matt is a first-class example of competitive excellence." - March 2020

What others say:
Thank you for always leading by example and being a great teammate.” - March 2020

"Crazy Florida man." - March 2020

"Matt was a rock on defense. He knew his limits and wouldn’t try to do too much, which made him a good leader." - April 2020

SENIOR CELEBRATION SERIES: Kirsten Iwanski

While at Rensselaer:
Defense … Played 106 career games … Scored once with five assists … Played all 37 games as junior and all 34 as senior … Biomedical Engineering major ... Dean's Honor List.

From the coaching staff:
"Kirsten’s journey at RPI has been nothing short of amazing and inspirational. Battling back from a brain tumor and cancer her sophomore year, ‘Wan’ only missed one semester and was back on the ice practicing with our team and attending classes on campus in less than six months after her diagnosis. I’ll always remember her father telling me she was studying for her physics summer class while she was waiting for brain surgery. She also volunteered as a coach with her childhood hockey organization while going through radiation treatments. Truly incredible. Kirsten’s story can only really be told by her, but I’ll always be inspired by her toughness, humility, strength, grace and resiliency through one of the hardest things anybody should have to go through. ‘Wan’ is a leader in everything she does. Her work ethic is unmatched on the ice and in the classroom. She was never afraid to put the work in to be the best she could be, no matter what the obstacle or adversity in her path. A hard-nosed, gritty and competitive defender, you always knew you’d get her very best. Words cannot express how proud I am of her and I can’t thank her enough for all she has done for our program." - March 2020

What others say:
"Has gone through the worst and still worked hard every single time we stepped on the ice." - March 2020

Kirsten is an overall amazing person. She never fails to brighten up everyone's day and is one of the hardest working people I know. She puts so much effort into her school work and sport and was an immediate person for me to look up to as soon as I got onto campus.” - April 2020

Always a positive impact on the ice and in the locker room. Always looking to put a smile on everyone's face.” - April 2020

"Kirsten Iwanski has been through so much and is one of the strongest people I know. Her work ethic and perseverance is inspiring. She is an amazing teammate and friend who is always there to try to bring people up. I can't wait to see all that she accomplishes!" - April 2020

“Kirsten was my stall-mate for my freshman year, and I am very thankful for that. She always kept our team positive, and never ever stopped believing in everyone. She set an example on the ice to always give it your all, and pushed everyone to be their best. If I was ever having a bad day, I could always count on Kirsten at practice to make me laugh.” - April 2020

“Kirsten has served as a role model for me in various ways throughout my freshman year. She has the ability to lift spirits in the locker room with her passion for the game. She always brings energy to the room and her work ethic is second to none. She has been a leader both on and off the ice, and this will help her succeed in all future endeavors.” - April 2020

“Kirsten was such a great asset to the team this year with her positivity and her undeniable ability to defend. I really admire her and her way of shining light on a tough situation because she always knew how to keep her spirits up, and it was infectious. Kirsten, I'm going to miss you and your one liners!” - April 2020

SENIOR CELEBRATION SERIES: Vince Putrino

While at Rensselaer:
Distance … Captain in cross country (2 years) and track & field … All-Liberty League in cross country once … Ran 800, mile, 1500, 3000 and 5000 in track … College-best 8:49.70 in 3000 at 2020 Liberty League Championship … Aeronautical Engineering major ... Intern at BAE Systems.

From the coaching staff:
Vince was the ultimate team person and was honored by his peers to be a two-time captain. All of his actions were always for the betterment of his teammates. Every season he would work to pull others up with him as he ascended through the depth chart. His positive energy, fun vibes, and creative mind was always a highlight of practice. On top of that, his ideas sparked team unity and good race techniques. A highlight of his career for me was when he ran a huge PR running a selfless race at 2018 Liberty League XC Championships. As he joined his teammates in the scoring team in a battle with RIT's top runners, he sacrificed his own race with a mile to go to help pull his teammates along to victory. - March 2020

What others say:
"Thanks for being my best friend in the whole wide world!" - March 2020

"Possibly the best captain for any team at the school. Everything Vince did was always for the boys. Nothing was ever about himself; he was incredibly selfless and an ideal role model for those looking toward a senior for direction." - March 2020

Leader, hard worker.” - April 2020

“Vince takes the cake when it comes to getting a rise from a crowd and giving his teammates a laugh. He has always been a funny character who knows all the best ways to bring up his teammates when it is time to race or have a good time. He is a natural role model for many and his commitment to the team is unquestioned. He saw constant improvements in his running over his years at RPI while pursuing a challenging degree, participating in many clubs, and rising to become a team captain for multiple years. Vince is willing to do a ton for his teammates and even spent a summer driving around the country to visit all of his friends. He has been a great friend for everyone on the team and is bound for greatness in the upcoming years.” - April 2020

“Our Fearless Leader.” - April 2020
