TROY, N.Y. – Senior
Billy Chissoe and junior
Josh Gaudiano each contributed a goal and an assist to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Hobart College. With the win, the Engineers improve to 9-2-2 (5-1-0 Liberty League), while the Statesmen drop to 6-6-1 (3-3-1 Liberty League).
The visitors struck first in the 21st minute, when Amad Miller headed home a corner kick from the right by August Martini. The tally, which was Miller's fifth goal of the season, gave Hobart a 1-0 advantage.
Seven minutes later, the Engineers equalized on a firmly delivered cross from the left side by Chissoe that was thumped home by Gaudiano from the middle of the penalty area. The tally was Gaudiano's team-leading seventh of the season.
RPI then took the lead for good a few minutes after the second half resumed. Gaudiano returned the favor from the right flank, as his low cross was tapped in by Chissoe at close range. The 54th-minute strike was Chissoe's fourth of the campaign.
The Engineers had a number of chances to add to their lead, including a wide open look from Gaudiano in the final 10 minutes, but Hobart goalkeeper Guillermo Casteneda Chang came up big to make the save.
