Women's Soccer Falls at No. 6 William Smith

Herons score early and late in 3-0 decision

GENEVA, N.Y. – The No. 6 William Smith College women's soccer team received a pair of goals from Julia Keogh to beat Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Cozzens Field. With the win, the Herons improve to 12-1-1 overall (7-0-0 Liberty League), while the Engineers drop to 4-4-4 (1-3-2).

Keogh opened the scoring in just the sixth minute of play, as the Herons took advantage of a half-clearance from the Engineers on the right side. Katrina Berg sent a ball into the box that was tipped towards the far post by Ava Ruppersberger, for Keogh, who finished first time into the right side of the net.

William Smith added a second goal just before halftime, when Sarah Gray headed home a corner kick from Berg. Gray's sixth goal of the season came in the 44th minute. The Herons had a 15-3 shot advantage at the break.

The Engineers generated seven second-half shot attempts, but could not sneak one past William Smith goalkeeper Amanda Kesler, who finished with five saves. RPI sophomore Megan Wampner had six saves in her second collegiate appearance.

The Herons added an insurance tally in the 88th minute as Keogh finished the double from the penalty spot.

RPI is back in action next Saturday, when it hosts Ithaca College at East Campus Stadium (1pm). William Smith visits Vassar College next Saturday (3pm).
